The Adherence Analytics Data Scientist will be responsible for leading data-driven insights and analytics that drive performance and shape the future of all Novartis Pharma (Innovative Medicines) patient adherence programs and our Patient and Specialty Services (PSS) organization.

This individual will use data science and advanced statistical techniques to discover insights and identify opportunities to optimize patient adherence programs. He/she will be proficient in the use of statistical modeling (logistic and multivariate regression, survival analysis, ANCOVA, test/control design), data mining, data visualization and algorithmic/machine learning techniques.

This individual will partner closely with business stakeholders and must possess strong communication skills in order to present results of complex analyses in a clear and actionable manner. This individual will an adherence analytics/data expert for PSS, providing problem solving leadership to enable analytic-based solutions to business questions and challenges.

This individual will work closely with Adherence Strategy and Operations colleagues and external vendors to develop a deep understanding of brand patient adherence program offerings and underlying transaction-level patient data. He/she will be responsible for monitoring engagement and performance KPIs through reporting, implementing early warning systems and bringing together large, disparate data sets. He/she will be responsible for exploratory data analysis, designing test & learn pilots and building explanatory statistical models with the goals of understanding adherence drivers and making data-driven recommendations that optimize patient experiences and outcomes (best channels/messaging/offers/cadence). He/she will build innovative predictive models to identify at risk patients, and leverage machine learning to continually adapt and optimize program offerings to improve patient outcomes and experiences.

Major Activities

  • Understands business priorities/challenges and changes in the healthcare landscape impacting adherence and translates into data performance metrics and advanced predictive analytics for adherence

  • Conducts exploratory data analysis. Maintains and monitors adherence program reporting.

    Designs experiments and tests hypotheses. Applies advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain and improve on real-time decision-making.

  • Provide input into design of adherence programs across brands by modeling impact of various options and design approaches, for example financial and behavioral segment impacts. Create and maintain knowledge library

  • Track effectiveness and impact of all Novartis US Gen Meds adherence programs

  • Manage communications in partnership with the Director Adherence / Co-pay Analytics and Adherence Strategy & Operations colleagues to key stakeholders inside the organization as it relates to adherence analytics

  • Regularly interact with external and internal vendors to ensure high standard of PSS data and analytics in adherence

  • Rapidly problem solves and resolve data and analytics issues for adherence as needed, working closely with the adherence Strategy and Operations program leads, data stewards, IT, PSS Analytics franchise leads, brand teams and external partners.

At Novartis, we have 20 years of data from a diverse portfolio of diseases that needs to be further explored to deliver the best innovative new medicines to patients who will receive the greatest benefit. Associate Director in Advanced Methodology & Data Science (AMDS) will be a lead contributor at the Trial and Project level, working in collaboration with Biostatisticians, Pharmacometricians and Global Project Teams to ensure the use of state-of-the-art statistical methods, models and machine learning. Actively participate in the professional development of Biostatistics and Pharmacometrics group members. In addition, play a strong supporting role in driving scientific collaborations across academia, industry and regulators to advance drug development methodologies. * Lead project support requiring hands-on expertise in novel quantitative approaches. This could include: innovative clinical trial design, quantitative decision making, incorporating evidence from sources of big data (e.g. biomarkers, digital technology and real world evidence) * Implement and communicate innovative quantitative methods to support regulatory submissions and health authority meetings * Support the use of advanced analytical support to improve Franchise level decision making, including support for key development decision points transition of projects from research to development, quantitative aspects of dose-finding, clinical development plan and target product profile, portfolio level evaluation and the assessment of in-licensing opportunities * Develop new quantitative methods with the aim of improving drug development at Novartis in multiple projects. The focus includes clinical trial design, modeling, visualization and machine learning • Proactively evaluate the need of technology and novel scientific software, visualization tools and new approaches to computation to increase efficiency and quality of the Novartis drug development practices * Collaborate with regulatory, academic and industry partners to advance drug development science through innovative quantitative approaches * Publish in peer reviewed journals, help organizing sessions at external professional conferences and contribute to cross-industry work streams in external scientific working groups Position will be filled at level commensurate with experience. (May be hired at the Principal, Senior Principal, and Associate Director levels) Education: MS or PhD (in statistics, biostatistics, data science, computational biology or equivalent) Principal – PhD preferred OR MS with 3+ years' experience Senior Principal – PhD with 3+ years' experience preferred OR MS with 7+ years' experience Associate Director – PhD with 6+ years' experience preferred OR MS with 10+ years' experience * At least 6 years of experience with application of innovative quantitative methods in drug development setting preferred * Expert knowledge in a number of relevant quantitative approaches in terms of both theory and hands-on experience * Scientific leadership skills demonstrated in facilitating and optimizing the (early/full) clinical development strategy by using expertise in design, modeling or analytics * Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) bridging scientific and business needs.
