General Information:
The Associate Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) is a staff member within the division of University Advancement. The Associate Director reports to and takes direction from the Sr. Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Duties are implemented according to the policies and procedures of University Advancement, the Development Office and the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
The Associate Director for CFR plays a critical role in advancing the mission of the James Madison University by securing financial support from corporate and foundation partners. This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with key corporate and foundation stakeholders to enhance the JMU's programs, research, and strategic initiatives-including but not limited to Madison Trust and annual fundraising initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Major Areas of Responsibility
1.Strategy Development and Implementation
Working closely with the Sr. Director for CFR develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for corporate and private foundation philanthropy, with an emphasis on enhancing CFR's private foundation strategy.
Identify and manage a portfolio of primarily private foundations that have both the interest and inclination to support various strategic initiatives at James Madison University.
Develop and implement strategies to build private foundation interest, involvement and support of the University and its academic and administrative units.
Work with Office of Advancement Information Services to assist in developing systems to effectively manage individual foundation prospects to align and enhance the entire CFR portfolio and data management strategy.
2.Foundation Relations and Proposal Development
Cultivate and steward relationships with private foundations.
Foster collaborative relationships between the Office of Sponsored Programs and CFR to streamline faculty support, proposal development and ensure alignment of funding strategies and enhance communication and coordinated in pursing and managing philanthropic gifts and private grants.
Lead the development, writing, and submission of high-quality proposals to secure funding for CFR.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to gather relevant information and create compelling proposals that align with funder's guidelines and priorities, as well as adhere to any relevant university policies.
Ensure foundation gifts and awards are properly acknowledged, accounted for and stewarded.
3.Madison Trust
With oversight from the Sr. Director of CFR, oversee the strategy, vision and program needs of Madison Trust to ensure a sustainable engagement and fundraising program.
Develop accurate reporting and tracking for projects and investments, in partnership with Advancement Information Services and the JMU Foundation.
Coordinate with frontline fundraisers to engage and recruit donors.
Maintain a project lifecycle to receive regular project updates from past faculty/staff participants to show impact to donors.
Maintain and evaluate, annually, a communication strategy for Madison Trust including a program website, communication to campus and donors, in partnership with Advancement Marketing.
Create a stewardship plan for donors.
Serve JMU Foundation Account Guardian to Madison Trust accounts to ensure accurate fund disbursement and tracking.
4.Relationship Management
Identify and research potential foundation partners who interests and values align with JMU's mission and priorities, with emphasis on the institution's Six Year Plan.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within these organizations.
Coordinate efforts with the Office of Sponsored Programs, and Research and Scholarship to help maximize funding opportunities for both programs.
Work with faculty, staff, administrators across campus to further advance corporate and foundation relationships.
5.Function as a member of the CFR team
Assist the Sr. Director of CFR and Associate Vice President for Development initiatives based on the priorities of the university.
Provide regular statistical reports on the status of program areas.
Attend department, unit and division meetings and events as requested.
Represent Development at University, community and professional functions, as requested.
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor's Degree
Demonstrated professional experience in higher education, fundraising and/or corporate/foundation development
Excellent organizational, written, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders
Ability to work as a team member in a high-energy office, along with proven skills of flexibility and adaptability
Ability to work independently as well as a member of a larger team
Ability to work effectively under deadline, set and maintain priorities, and manage a variety of projects simultaneously
Flexible work schedule with some weekend travel and evening hours required
Preferred
Master's degree in a related field
Demonstrated success as a proposal writer in higher education
High comfort level with technology
