The Corporate and Business Development Finance team partners with the business to support external business development assessments and subsequent post-merger integration, as well as internal portfolio pipeline assessments, through rigorous financial valuation and pro forma financial impact; long term revenue forecasting of internal and external programs; long range planning to ensure delivery of corporate strategic goals; and other corporate-level cross-functional value-creation analyses. This position reports to the Director of Corporate and Business Development Finance.

Key responsibilities

Analyzes financial feasibility and conducts appropriate due diligence to ensure reliability of information provided by third parties to test and refine assumptions for financial valuation.

  • Collaborates with other Finance, Research and Development, Commercial, and Business Development stakeholders to develop financial assumptions and analyze valuation, including revenue forecasts and NPV

  • Assesses financial impact to Alexion for potential new acquisitions and in-licensing opportunities, ensuring alignment with appropriate external and internal benchmarks, and industry best practice

  • Perform sensitivity and scenario analysis to ask challenging questions to refine assumptions

Supports Long Range Planning, by partnering with internal finance team and business partners to understand the long-term business outlook

  • Consolidates and analyzes long range planning inputs from the business and distills relevant insights on driving value creation in both the short- and long-term

  • Performs scenario analyses around Long Range Plan trajectories to ensure delivery of strategic and corporate goals, and communicates analyses to key business partners

  • Analyzes and evaluates corporate financial decisions, such as capital allocation and investment strategies

Candidate Profile

  • 6+ years of experience in related field

  • In-depth Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry experience

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA highly preferred

  • Strong business acumen; proven ability to effectively scrutinize and challenge assumptions and interpret the strategy and priorities of the organization

  • Strong industry acumen to assess and anticipate cross-functional interdependencies, and both strategic and financial implications

  • Excellent project management and leadership skills with demonstrated track record and ability to engage cross-functional teams to work together on senior level assessments

  • Strong communication skills to present decision-relevant insights and recommendations and analyses to senior executives

  • Experienced in collaboration with colleagues (within or outside of finance) in sharing insights and learnings, to challenge status quo to deliver on quality analysis and drive incremental value in a continuous improvement mindset, with flexibility and ability to adapt to change

  • Ability to plan in the short- and long-term, cross-functionally, and at the higher strategic and detailed level, to consolidate the big picture for the corporation, to anticipate risks and deliver on corporate goals

  • Empowered ownership mindset, with the willingness to take a project and analysis to completion, while consulting relevant stakeholders, to scope and define problems and execute meaningful solutions
