Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for leading and managing key market analytic activities for the anticipated commercial launch of a product in our robust portfolio. The responsibilities span across KPI development, performance reporting, development/management of forecast models, analysis of market research, and monitoring of competitive landscape. This will be a highly visible role within the organization maintaining regular interaction with senior leadership. This individual will be contributing meaningfully to decision making process and overall brand strategy.



  • Develop key performance indicators.

  • Deploy high impact performance reports/dashboards to inform strategic decisions.

  • Perform ad hoc and deep dive analysis in secondary research as required to uncover and understand market and competitive dynamics.


  • Develop and own long-range and launch forecast models.

  • Work collaboratively with internal customers in the clinical and commercial organizations to ensure alignment of forecast assumptions.

  • Leverage forecast model as a tool to ensure application of market insights, to guide investment decisions, identify risks, and help shape strategy.

Market Insights

  • Deliver reports analyzing the changing competitive environment.

  • Partner with brand team to create and execute on market research plan.

  • Regularly present market insights to brand teams and leadership in a manner that is easily interpreted and aids strategic and tactical decision making.


  • BA/BS required

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in healthcare, pharmaceuticals or consulting

  • Oncology experience preferred

  • Experience with Tableau, SQL, and/or other BI tools strongly preferred

Agios has two approved oncology precision medicines and multiple first-in-class investigational therapies in clinical and/or preclinical development. Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Head, Commercial Operations and Analytics (COA) to join our growing Commercial team. The Head, Commercial Operations and Analytics will lead the following functions: Market Analytics and Decision Support (MADS) MADS is responsible for market research, forecasting, marketing science and competitive intelligence. MADS provides input to brand strategy development and decision-making for the Agios portfolio based upon the synthesis of insights provided by primary and secondary market research and data analysis. The team analyzes the marketplace, competitive environment, and future trends, summarizing findings and generating meaningful recommendations for the brand team and leadership. Commercial Operations Commercial Operations is responsible for congress planning, budgeting, and quarterly/annual/long-range planning. This person will also lead the integration of all Commercial data analytics to support business planning and monitoring (sales ops, patient assistance and other data sources). This role supports Agios pipeline and in-line portfolio of products in hematology-oncology and rare genetic diseases as well as conducting comprehensive business development assessments. Head, COA, who will report to the SVP, US Commercial and Global Marketing but support the global business and is charged with providing leadership for the function and, as a "player-coach", providing insights on key business in order to inform critical decisions for the business. Key Responsibilities: * Evolve commercial operational capabilities within the US and build capacity to support ex-US expansion, including the establishment of individual roles and teams, and all processes, systems and tools required to support Sales, Marketing, Market Access and other company functions as required. * Formalize and manage a business planning and forecast process for the Commercial Operations group, reflecting clear alignment with the Commercial organization's goals and objectives. Execute the plan according to timelines and budget. * Lead and manage the development and continuous improvement of Agios' capabilities in the areas of market research, forecasting and competitive intelligence that provide valuable customer and competitive insights in support of brand/company decisions * Develop actionable market insights through secondary research and primary qualitative and quantitative research; effectively integrate primary and secondary research resources and activities * Manage the development of long-range forecast and market/revenue/NPV models, in collaboration with internal stakeholders * Provide dedicated analysis, forecasting expertise and recommendations to assess and support commercial brand opportunities * Lead and develop competitive intelligence efforts by gathering and interpreting competitive actions and information that will guide strategic marketing initiatives, clinical development and R&D strategies, and business development * Provide an objective market viewpoint based on an in-depth understanding and analysis of customer and environmental information; provide recommendations on marketing strategies and tactic effectiveness * Provide perspectives and recommendations regarding trends in the oncology and rare genetic diseases space, to guide understanding of implications for Agios * Participate in key teams (i.e., early commercial, brand, portfolio) to ensure strategic decisions reflect market intelligence and customer insight * Act as an internal consultant to stakeholders across marketing, sales, market access, clinical, regulatory, finance, manufacturing, and other functions, to support strategic decision making. * Commercial Ops * Congress planning * Annual strategic/tactical planning processes (budget, brand planning, tactical planning, QBRs) and collaborate with Corporate Strategy on annual planning processes * Co-Lead data governance, integration and interpretation to support business decision making Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or Life Sciences or equivalent experience; graduate degree a plus * 10+ years of experience in market research/analytics and/or decision support in the biopharmaceutical industry; extensive experience with primary market research required; previous consulting experience a plus * Proven leadership capabilities, including influencing cross-functional partners and coaching/developing direct reports * Proven strong people management and development skills * Financial modeling skills required as well as deep analytical and quantitative/statistical skills, including ability to extract, manipulate and analyze complex data * Experience in in oncology and rare genetic diseases is strongly desired; including both with marketed and pipeline products * Demonstrated understanding of the key steps and checkpoints included in the market research process: study design components, appropriate use of statistics, and analytical applications * Deep understanding of various biopharmaceutical data sources, particularly related to oncology and rare genetic diseases * Previous experience with branding research (product positioning, creative concept testing, message testing) * Ability to effectively work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders * Ability to deliver value-added research results that meet high quality requirements within tight deadlines and to manage third-party vendors effectively to complete projects on time and within budget * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems through rigorous application of logic, as well as ability to find creative solutions where needed * Ability to challenge internal assumptions and go beyond the "obvious" answer * Ability to represent the market analytics function on commercial and cross functional teams * Travel anticipated: approximately 10-20% Agios Pharmaceuticals Cambridge MA
