Associate Director, Clinical Scientist-Respiratory and Inflammation participates in the evaluation, strategic planning and execution of Respiratory and Inflammation clinical development programs. Under the supervision of the Associate Director/Director, the successful candidate will participate in the development of key study documents and perform multi-factorial analysis of scientific and clinical data to help guide product development.

Job Duties:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate will also support clinical development and planning of Regeneron's pipeline drug candidates.

  • Conducts detailed analyses of clinical data. Must be resourceful and have outstanding abilities to synthesize and make connections

  • Helps to author the Clinical Study Protocol, amendments and related documents, Informed Consent Form, monitoring plan, and other key study documents. Train and support CRAs/CROs on study protocol and related questions and serve as point of contact for managing/answering questions relating to trial procedures and subjects' eligibility.

  • Participates in development of other key documents and reports for clinical programs

  • Contributes to decision-making and provides well-reasoned, thorough reviews, due diligence and proposals to cross-functional project teams. Engage in team discussions and provide translational sciences support for assigned projects

  • Conducts detailed literature reviews and analysis of competitive landscape from a technological, mechanistic, pharmacological and clinical development perspectives. Based on scientific understanding of technologies, diseases processes and targets of interest, provides analyses and rationale for early clinical development opportunities

  • Contributes to the development and optimization of the REGN's indication knowledge-base to facilitate information sharing across the organization

  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.

Requirement:

Education

  • Must possess Bachelor's Degree, a Master's Degree, PharmD or PhD is preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience

Building upon Regeneron's strengths in mouse genetics and genetics-driven drug discovery and development, the RGC specializes in ultra-high-throughput exome sequencing, large scale informatics and data analysis encompassing genomics and electronic health records, and translating genetic discoveries into new biology and drug discovery opportunities. The RGC leverages multiple approaches including large population based studies, Mendelian genetics and family based studies, founder population genetics, and large-scale disease focused projects and has developed a network of over 50 collaborations with research organizations around the world. Including some of the largest sequencing studies in the world, such as the DiscovEHR study in collaboration with Geisinger Health System, and an initiative to sequence 500,000 participants with the UK Biobank, the RGC has built one of the largest human genetics databases, including sequence data from over several hundred thousand participants and rapidly growing. Our interests encompass a breadth of different areas across all therapeutic areas and the RGC is highly integrated into all facets of research and development at Regeneron. Program goals include target discovery, indication discovery, and patient-disease stratification. Objectives include advancing basic science around the world through public sharing of discoveries, providing clinically-valuable insights to physicians and providers of collaborating health-care systems, improving patient outcomes, and identifying novel targets for drug development. Summary The position will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the RGC's clinical informatics group. Working with the Head of Clinical Informatics, the physician informaticist will manage and develop relationships with EHR data providers such as healthcare systems and academic research networks and their informatics groups. Responsibilities will also include providing clinical input to the team of data analysts developing and executing queries for diverse stakeholders. The position will also involve working with a team of database administrators, biostatisticians, clinical scientists, and programmers to structure and mine clinical and phenotypic data sets and support genomic studies and association analyses. The position will require coordination and collaboration with other scientists within the department, research and clinical scientists at Regeneron, and external collaborators. The position will report to the Head of Clinical Informatics. Responsibilities * Close collaboration with internal Regeneron teams to define and refine clinical research questions and patient cohorts * Close collaboration and coordination with external health system collaborators and informatics teams mining EMR and phenotypic data sets. Work with these collaborators to structure data and develop algorithms, rules engines, and querying tools to access and curate the phenotypic datasets. * Provide input to a group of analysts working within a team of programmers, database administrators, statisticians, and clinical scientists, as well as external collaborators and facilitate EMR data extraction, transformation and processing from multiple health system partners. * Represent the RGC at national meetings or in other similar settings Requirements This position requires an MD/DO and either board certification in clinical informatics or the completion of an NLM-sponsored fellowship. Additional requirements include: * Familiarity with data mining, clinical databases, hospital health informatics databases including Epic or other EHR data structures, ideally through work at an academic medical center * Familiarity with clinical data standards such as ICD, SNOMED, LOINC, and OMOP, and database architecture and administration * Experience with HIPAA and experience with IRB protocols around use of use of EHR data. * Experience working with investigators and ideally experience as a principal investigator with a track record of academic publication and/or federal grant support * Involvement in relevant programs such as PCORnet, eMERGE, HMO Research Network, or other such projects is preferred. * Demonstrates understanding of relational database concepts and query tools. * Demonstrates strong analytical skills * Demonstrates the ability to multitask and manage simultaneous projects to meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail. * Demonstrates ability to interpret and communicate analytical information in a clear, concise manner.
