Atavistik is based in Cambridge, MA and backed by leading biotech venture capital firms The Column Group, Nextech and Lux Capital.

Position Summary:

Atavistik is seeking an Associate Director of Business Development to manage multiple functions within the BD organization. The Associate Director of BD is a strategically minded businessperson who will own all aspects of market and competitive intelligence, commercial assessments, search and evaluation strategy, among other areas, and would support the CBO and CEO in corporate strategy development, fundraising, communications and strategic transactions. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly collaborative, driven individual looking for a leadership role in a fast-paced, biotech environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with the heads of R&D to bring in relevant market intelligence to inform internal program and portfolio decision-making, and conduct high level commercial opportunity assessment for future portfolio prioritization.

  • As opportunities arise, drive execution of potential 'sell-side' BD processes through development of management materials, quarterbacking due diligence, participating in negotiating collaboration and license agreements, providing relevant financial analyses

  • Develop and improve processes for gathering, summarizing, and distributing competitive intelligence insights (clinical and pre-clinical) relevant to Atavistik's pipeline

  • Maintain and update competitive landscape analyses and competitor profiles for Atavistik's disease areas and targets of focus, and deliver accurate, timely, and actionable updates to key stakeholders (e.g., key readouts, launch estimates, catalysts)

  • Develop contact network for gaining rapid insights into relevant market news

  • Manage consultants and vendors as appropriate for specialized analyses

  • On a targeted basis and in collaboration with R&D heads, identify assets and technologies complementary to Atavistik's pipeline and capabilities, and lead evaluations of potential collaboration and in-license opportunities

  • Assist in developing Atavistik's corporate narrative to communicate with outside investors, partners, and collaborators

Key Qualifications:

  • Passion for working in a small biotech: candidate should be entrepreneurial, intellectually curious and be able to lead workstreams independently, while also being collaborative and capable of working cross-functionally.

  • Understanding of and exposure to biotech business transactions: conceptual understanding of puts and takes in licensing and collaboration deals; ability to complete high level transaction analyses; experience with running a due diligence process; exposure to deal negotiations and transaction agreements.

  • Scientific background is preferred.

  • 4+ years of experience in business development or life sciences consulting, with a focus on commercial strategy, corporate development, and pipeline prioritization experience within the biotechnology industry.

  • Experience within the oncology therapeutics area.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to forge relationships, build consensus, and drive towards strategic decisions.

  • Knowledgeable in financial analysis, corporate and product valuation as necessary to engineer deals.

  • Visible entrepreneurial attitude demonstrated with actions - integrity, clarity, determination and compassion.
