The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist to lead Bioanalytical Sciences organization at Avidity Biosciences in San Diego, CA. In the role, the group leader will oversee a group of PhD and associate level scientists responsible for the development, validation, and implementation of bioanalytical methods to support our drug discovery and development programs. The successful candidate will ensure high-quality data generation and interpretation, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and drive continuous improvement within the team. Additional responsibilities include representing the Bioanalytical function on research and development teams, mentoring scientist team members, and communicating between functional areas, among others. We seek a candidate who enjoys scientific discovery, is team oriented and possess excellent communication skills that excels in a collaborative fast-paced interdisciplinary environment.

What You Will Contribute

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Bioanalytical Sciences team

  • Define and implement program-specific bioanalytical strategies that spans preclinical drug discovery through late phase clinical development

  • Expand and refine capabilities by integrating new methods and technologies

  • Lead bioanalytical technical discussions for multiple programs

  • Represent the PKPD Department on cross-functional project teams

  • Manage relationships with external service providers

  • Demonstrate effective presentational, verbal, and written communication

What We Seek

  • PhD in Bioengineering, Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline with at least 7 years of industry experience; alternatively, a highly qualified candidate with an MS degree and 10+ years of relevant industry experience may be considered

  • Direct experience leading teams and managing multiple scientists and technical staff with diverse skill sets

  • Hands-on experience developing bioanalytical assays across multiple platforms including LC-MS/MS and ELISA/MSD

  • Experience developing quantitative LC-MS assays for small molecules, peptides, proteins, oligonucleotides, oligonucleotide conjugates, and their metabolites from biological matrixes. Knowledge of Thermo Fisher Scientific instruments and software is preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience with bioanalytical assays supporting protein or RNA therapeutics

  • Knowledge of regulatory agency's (FDA, EMA, etc..) requirement on method development, qualification and validation of bioanalytical assays

  • Hands-on lab experience with various laboratory techniques including quantitative RT-PCR, cell culture, RNA isolation, RNA-seq, exosome purification is desired

  • Experience working with external contract labs

  • Experience with GxP bioanalytical assays is a plus

  • Knowledge on various in-vitro & in-vivo bioanalytical assays to support ADME studies is a plus

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, enthusiasm, integrity, self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are necessary

What We Will Provide to You:

  • The base salary range for this role is $176,000 - $200,000. The final compensation will be commensurate with factors such as relevant experience, skill set, internal equity, and market factors.
