Position Profile
The Associate Director Alliance Management is a cross-functional leader who has either materially contributed to or directly managed life sciences partnerships (specifically license transactions, collaborations, alliances, and/or joint ventures) and has experience with the drug development process, medical devices, life science instrumentation, preferably biotech. He/she is an individual who can create value through the effective leadership and management of strategic partnerships by working closely with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders across geographies and functions.
Essential Functions
Manage a broad portfolio of complex partnerships at all stages of their lifecycle with a focus on mutual value creation
Identify, understand, and ensure mechanisms are in place to manage differences between Jazz and partner (e.g. on partnership strategy, relative program prioritization, risk tolerance, norms, operating model, processes, etc.)
Convene and align internal stakeholders for each relevant alliance, ensure effective interactions between the parties and that Jazz operates from an aligned point of view on all issues
Ensure effectiveness and efficiency of joint governance for each relevant partnership
Ensure the Jazz team understands and plans for key partnership inflection points that can drive value as well as partner obligations, contractual commitments and key partnership deliverables
Ensure Jazz decision making is informed by contract terms with partner, partner's point of view, and any other factors that could affect partnership value
Proactively identify and drive resolution of key partnership risks and issues
Provide strategic input to deal teams with regard to partnership agreement negotiations and purpose-focused governance considerations for proactive partner alignment and efficient and effective post transaction implementation
Establish credibility, trust, and respect throughout Jazz and with our partners
Utilize cross-functional knowledge, business acumen and drug development experience to engage with scientific and business leaders across Jazz
Contribute to cross-functional initiatives to improve Jazz's partnership management capabilities
Provide mentoring, coaching and guidance to others working on Jazz's partnerships, especially Project Managers, Global Molecule Leads, Alliance Executive Sponsors and functional leads. Facilitate cross functional win/win solutions for issues with the potential to adversely impact the alliance relationship or the mutual value drivers
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Significant demonstrated progressive and related experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, typically requires a minimum of six years of related experience managing partnerships and/or combination of experience and education/training
Solid understanding of discovery research, process development, technology transfer, clinical development, GxP and regulatory processes, reimbursement and global commercial dynamics in the biopharmaceutical industry
Strong interpersonal skills and business acumen, excellence in building and managing relationships, ability to understand all perspectives, find common ground and effectively bridge significant differences
Strong problem solving, leadership, negotiation, advocacy and influence skills
Ability to operate on both strategic and tactical levels and to flex as needed in a fast paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Intermediate to expert skills using Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and utilize Jazz Partnering Place for issues, obligations, communications and health checks with partners
High integrity with respect to maintenance of proprietary and confidential information
