Essential Duties

1.Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas. 2. Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility. 3.

Plans and/or participates in planning University activities on a long-term basis to comply with University goals and objectives. 4. Establishes and implements consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility. 5. Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. 6.

Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies. 7. Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in related field and six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Position Focus:

The Operations Director is responsible for the overall operational management of Y-Weight (Yale Obesity Research Center). This includes the Center's strategic development; administrative/staffing and financial/grant management; training and communication activities; and furthering the Center's mission through collaboration and dissemination. The Center's mission is to improve the lives of people with obesity through human research which facilitates the development of novel anti-obesity pharmacotherapies.

Strategic Development: Direct multidisciplinary projects involving Center faculty and staff, other Yale departments, research partners, subcontractors, vendors, sponsors, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality deliverables, on time and within budget.

Work with Center Director, Program Manager, faculty, staff, trainees and service providers to develop and implement the Center's research strategy. Plans for financial and non-financial resources required for the Center to achieve its goals. Conceptualize, prioritize, and plan new programs or changes. Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to develop the Center's mission, vision, and strategic plan (timelines, budgets, resource allocation, communications strategies).

Administrative Management: Develop and direct the administrative infrastructure and implement University administrative policies pertaining to the Center.

Manage and coordinate training sessions for Center staff. Ensure compliance with University and federal regulations. Manage the use of facilities, office space, workstations, equipment, and office supplies.

Manage and monitor technology needs, inventory, and system requirements. Collaborate with external providers (HR, IT, facilities, procurement, student services).

Financial Management and Grant Stewardship: Provide comprehensive monitoring and analysis of the Center's financial resources.

Create and update long-range financial plans; identifying critical issues. Work with Center Director, Program Manager, faculty members, and Yale Office of Development to identify potential financial resources (grants, fundraising opportunities, etc.). Prepare all-funds budgets, financial reports, and analyze financial activities and performance against budgets. Provide grant stewardship overseeing development and submission of Center research proposals, leading development of administrative and financial sections of the applications. Oversee sponsor reporting requirements and regulations (data use agreements, institutional review board applications/renewals, progress reports, financial reports, dissemination of research). Serve as liaison to Internal Medicine Business Office and Pre-award team.

Talent Management: Manage staff and student hires with Program Manager.

Together with Center Director and faculty, set staff performance goals, conduct performance evaluations, and provide staff training/mentorship. Review and determine staffing needs, job posting requirements, salary guidelines, and labor agreement interpretations for exempt/non-exempt staff. Work with HR partners in selection, performance management, career development, and addressing employee relations issues.

Training Management: Contribute to educational endeavors of the Center.

Work with Program Manager to plan, organize, and execute seminars/lectures/workshops/conferences, and other programs. Work with Program Manager/faculty to develop and implement training courses for students/residents/fellows, research in progress sessions, and oversee submission of training grants.

Communication/Collaboration Management: With Center Director and Program Manager work to increase visibility and promote collaboration within and outside of the University.

Contribute to the development and management of Center website and social media, including oversight of content with the Director. Cultivate University and community partnerships to assist in development and growth of the Center.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master's level degree (Public Health , MBA, or other research degree); 6 to 8 years of research and operations management experience.
