What's Cool About this Job?

As a Developer Advocate, your job will be to foster relationships in the web development community, providing developers with education, help, code contributions, and resources in an effort to make developing WordPress sites as easy as possible. This serves to build goodwill, establish WP Engine as the market leader on building with WordPress, and accelerate the adoption of our products and platforms.

This Developer Relations role is specific to headless WordPress. You should be skilled in using WPGraphQL to source data from WordPress and using modern JavaScript frameworks such as Next.js/Nuxt/SvelteKit to render the pages of your decoupled application. You should also be familiar with WordPress concepts such as themes, plugins, custom post types, custom fields, taxonomies, blocks, and so on.

In addition to technical proficiency, you should also have great written and verbal communication skills. You should enjoy creating content such as blog posts, videos, documentation, and conference talks, and helping others learn and succeed.

The Day to Day:

• Produce educational technical content in a variety of formats (blog posts, videos, webinars, workshops, social media threads, conference talks, etc.).

• Host live, remote educational events on technical topics.

• Create demo codebases for training purposes, and/or to assist website builders.

• Help maintain documentation on our headless WordPress platform documentation site, reviewing PRs, making edits, merging PRs for new content, and contributing documentation as necessary.

• Give back by contributing to open-source software projects related to building with WordPress or headless WordPress. This includes WordPress (code or volunteer work on the various Make teams), JavaScript frameworks, and related technologies.

• Engage with community members in communities such as the Headless WordPress Discord server and social media networks.

Your Skills & Expertise:

• Passion for helping other developers learn and be successful with their projects

• Technically proficient in building web apps using headless WordPress technologies (JavaScript frameworks, WPGraphQL, NPM packages, WordPress)

• Ability to work effectively with a remote team across multiple time zones

• Driven and self-motivated with excellent organizational skills

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Previous experience working in an engineering or Developer Relations role is a plus.

Base Salary Range

$72,000.00 - $108,000.00

We believe that compensation should be reflective of the impact you have within the organization relative to the market value of your role. The estimated base salary range for this position is as listed above. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Our salary ranges are determined by job role and responsibilities and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for salaries for the position nationwide. The actual base pay will vary based on various factors including job-related skills and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process.
