Overall Summary

Associate Dental Director will provide clinical leadership and expertise while overseeing dental programs in designated clinics and mobile vans to enhance patient care and ensure quality outcomes. Provide professional dental services for patients in accordance with clinic procedures and protocols and sound dental practices. Individual will review, monitor and update the clinic's dental policies and procedures. Act as a resource and provide consultation on the assessment, management and treatment of complicated cases. In coordination with the Director of Oral health Services performs administrative responsibilities which include recruitment, orientation, supervision, and evaluation of dentists and hygienists. Provides ongoing development and review of protocols to ensure optimized care for patients is in compliance with licensing agencies.

Essential Responsibilities

  • To provide comprehensive public health-oriented dental services to patients to include diagnostic, consultation/referral, emergency preventive care.
  • To provide all general clinic services such as exams, determination of service priorities as appropriate, oral hygiene instruction to include use of fluorides and periodontal assessment with emphasis on individualized home care instruction and other required dental duties.
  • Fulfill all reporting and evaluation requirements.
  • Supervise dentists and hygienists. .
  • Conduct in-service training to staff. Participate in specialty clinics collaboratively with other members in planning to the health needs of clients and patients.
  • Educate other providers to enhance dental referrals.
  • Serve as a role model for other dentists within the clinic
  • Approve prior authorization for time consuming procedures.
  • To attend and participate in and or lead staff meeting. Assist and work with the executive director and other department heads in maintaining communication regarding overall operation of the clinic.
  • Refer to specialists for treatment beyond Bay Area Community health's scope.

Assist in coordinating peer review and conducting continuous quality improvement projects

Qualifications

Required education, experience, training

  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited training program
  • Current License in State of California as a General Dentist- Graduation from an American Dental Association (ADA) approved school of dentistry Minimum of five year of clinic experience preferred
  • Excellent Written and Verbal communication skills
  • Willing and able to take on increasing responsibility with time
  • Must relate well to all cultural and ethnic groups in the community.
  • Knowledge of Dental health plans and community health centers preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to treat all individuals with respect, empathy, and compassion.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff Computer skills with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, internet, and Practice.

Preferred education, experience, training

  • Prior experience in public health or community health.
  • Bilingual.

Physical Demands:

This position requires:

  • Sitting, walking, and standing associated with a normal medical/clinical office environment.
  • Regular bending and stretching; and lifting.
  • Manual dexterity used to include, but not limited to, standard office equipment, and computer keyboard.
  • Traveling to work sites including some exposure to outside elements.
  • Presenting information in front of a group.
  • Regular evening or weekend work schedule and at various locations as necessary.
  • Reading and writing in order to review records for accuracy.
  • Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 20 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
  • Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.

Supervisor:

Managerial personnel (supervisors, managers, directors, executive management) who are exempt or non-exempt and who are responsible for use of independent judgment to make personnel decisions or to recommend personnel decisions. Personnel decisions include, but are not limited to: hiring, promoting, transferring, evaluating, rewarding and terminating employees.
