Associate Dean Of Students

The Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School, a demanding college preparatory charter school, seeks to hire committed, skilled, and inspiring educators. AMSA is committed to preparing all students to succeed in college and beyond. Located in Marlborough, MA, AMSA includes 6th through 12th grade classes. The Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School is currently accepting applications for an Associate Dean of Students beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.

Teachers and Staff Members at the Advanced Math and Science Academy will:

• Focus intensely on increasing student achievement, content knowledge, and character growth. Create inspiring, challenging, and effective teaching and learning experiences for all our students. Be committed to serving all students, including English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities, in the context of the regular education classroom using a variety of inclusion models.

• Contribute to a strong and supportive professional learning community.

The Associate Dean of Students embodies our core values of integrity, excellence, and community in every interaction with students, staff, and parents. The Associate Dean is expected to be highly visible (including circulating through classrooms) and model desired behaviors. Work year consists of 189 school days. (two days after students leave and two days before the start of school)

Reports to: Dean of Students

• Communicates behavioral expectations for students and draws on expertise -- and common sense to uphold these expectations through consequences that emphasize reflection and continuous learning.

• Coordinates and supervises the school disciplinary system, including but not limited to Saturday, after-school, lunch detention, and in/out of school suspension.

• Is actively present/supervises school arrival, dismissal, lunch, and hallway transitions.

• Maintains accurate and comprehensive records of student discipline, conflict and mediation, and staff and family communication.

• Liaises with Marlborough Police and Massachusetts Juvenile Court on student legal issues, including attending monthly off-site Community-Based Justice meetings.

• Oversees student attendance system and builds/revises a system to address chronic absenteeism.

• Supports staff efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on time and prepared to learn.

• Reports discipline to DESE when applicable.

• Co-chairs the Student-Parent Handbook committee.

• Assists teachers, students, and families in effectively creating and implementing individual behavior plans.

• Proactively plans and executes operational systems that drive positive student behavior and create a culture of equal parts academic and ethical excellence.

• Communicate weekly with students, families, and school administrators about academic and behavioral concerns.

• Attend after-school events such as school dances, events, and student performances.

• Builds relationships of trust and support with students.

• Build and maintain collaborative and professional relationships with teachers and staff.

• Formally meet with new teachers and offer opportunities for meetings to discuss school policies and procedures pertaining to student affairs.

• Collaborates with the Director of Counseling to be the liaison for McKinney Vento

• Runs the Peer Mediation Program

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Strong commitment to the Advanced Math and Science Academy's mission, values, and educational model.

• Ability to collaborate, work well under pressure, and maintain a sense of humor and humility.

• Bachelor's degree is required

• Experience is preferred.

• Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
