The University Honors College is seeking an Associate Dean. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Oregon State University Honors College (HC) is a degree granting college within Oregon State University (OSU), which is also home to broader campus serving functions, including National and Global Scholarship Advising, and the Design for Social Impact academic program. The overall mission of the college is to provide an innovative, enriched learning experience to undergraduates, integrating students from all academic colleges into a cohesive community. The college supports OSU's strategic initiatives; advances equity, inclusion, and diversity; and provides employees with resources to meet the college's strategic priorities, while also supporting employee professional development and growth.

This position will provide innovative, pro-active leadership for the Honors College (HC). Serving as a key team member of the leadership team, this position will assist the Dean in all matters related to the management and direction of the HC.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent in this position is expected to be informed about principles and practices that advance equity, inclusion and diversity and integrate those principles into the performance of job responsibilities.

45% Responsibilities related to HC curriculum and faculty

Foster a college community that supports the success of all members through

  • The development, management, and assessment of curriculum and experiential learning opportunities (Corvallis and Cascades campuses, E-campus, as well as study abroad programs)
  • Faculty development, support, and recognition

45% Responsibilities related to HC administration, supervision, and fund development

Embed the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion while

  • Overseeing critical HC operations.

  • Supervising professional faculty.

  • Supporting and leading HC fund development events and activities.

10% Represent the HC on university-level committees and serve as the Dean's proxy as requested

What You Will Need

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree.

  • Tenured associate professor or professor.

  • Scholarly publications and activities within the humanities, arts, and/or social sciences.

  • Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate student research in the humanities, arts, and/or social sciences.

  • Experience with academic program administration, while supporting students, faculty, staff, and community members with diverse perspectives.

  • Experience leading and managing diverse groups of students, faculty, and/or staff.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Tenured at rank of professor.

  • Experience conducting and documenting program-level assessments.

  • Experience teaching/leading and/or planning short-term study abroad programs.

  • Experience teaching honors courses and/or mentoring honors theses.

  • Experience expanding the engagement of under-served and/or under involved students in curricular and/or research opportunities.

  • Experience working with professional faculty in support of student success, including students at high risk of honors or university withdrawal.

  • Experience leading fund development activities
