Associate Dean - Business Technologies Division

Overview:

The Associate Dean is an essential member in the Business Technologies Division. The Business Technologies Division offers a wide range of associate degrees and certificates and one Bachelor of Applied Science degree. The Division offers associate degree programs, long-term and short-term certificates in business fields such as Accounting, Administrative Assistant, Business Management, Finance, Marketing Management, Paralegal and Supply Chain Management. The Division is also home to the Midwest Culinary Institute which offers associate degree programs and certificates in Brewing Science, Culinary Arts, Dietetics, Hospitality Management, Pastry Arts, and our new Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Culinary and Food Science. The Division offers a limited number of transfer programs including Pre-Business Administration and Pre-Nutrition Science. Lastly, the Division offers associate degree programs and certificates in Automotive and Landscape Horticulture.

The successful candidate will assist in the planning, coordination, and supervision of the academic affairs, programs, and operations of the division as directed by the Dean. Assist in the selection, supervision and evaluation of the division's full-time instructors/professors, adjuncts, advisors, coordinators, and contractual and non-contractual personnel and student workers. The Associate Dean serves in the dean's absence, and represents the division as requested. This position requires internal relationships, including contact and collaboration with other academic deans, directors, administrators, staff, and students. In addition, the position requires external relationships, including academic administrators of other institutions of higher education, business and professional community advisory committees contact, members of local, state and national professional educational organizations, and others as requested by the Dean.

Essential Duties:

Academic

  • Manage and coordinate instructional activities on the Clifton campus, online and at extension sites and/or off-campus locations

  • Facilitate a safe and comfortable work and learning environment for faculty, staff and students

  • Facilitate curriculum and program development, implementation, and review while working with divisional faculty and staff

  • Manage and coordinate curriculum database and course documents

  • Ensure high quality, convenient academic advisement for students and lead implementation of advising-related completion strategies within the division

  • Assist program chairs and faculty in systematically evaluating its academic programs and services utilizing learning assessment data, completion data, and enrollment data to formulate and implement continuous improvement plans utilizing best practices

  • Attend academic program advisory committee meetings and ensure meaningful feedback is solicited and documented in meeting minutes

  • Manage and coordinate accreditation processes and reviews

  • Facilitate faculty development, including enhancing educational competencies

  • Oversee the division's academic schedules and coordinate its development and implementation with the other academic divisions and departments of the College

  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of articulation plans with various colleges, universities, and secondary schools

  • Address student concerns regarding academic-related matters

  • Assist with the Division's compliance with requirements and best practices of Ohio Department of Higher Education, Higher Learning Commission, and other accrediting and licensing bodies

Personnel

  • Assist with personnel issues

  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of adjunct instructors working with the faculty and program chairs

  • Ensure the orientation of new faculty and adjuncts and provide mentorship

  • Manage and support of the division's full-time instructors/professors, adjuncts, advisors, coordinators, and contractual and non-contractual personnel and student workers

  • Coordinate adjunct pay and contracts

  • Assist the Dean in the management of full-time faculty workload

  • Manage payroll, leave requests, and attendance of employees to ensure classroom and office coverage during operating hours

  • Assist with annual performance review of faculty and staff in accordance with institutional policies and procedures

Broad Functions

  • Develop and maintain business, community, and educational partnerships

  • Promote the division through external networking, speaking engagements, and participation in college-wide meetings

  • Serve as a divisional representative to assigned college-wide committees

  • Serve in the dean's absence and represent the division as requested

  • Assist the dean establishing divisional goals

  • Perform other related duties assigned by the Dean or Provost

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college

  • Five (5) years of experience as an instructor, advisor, program chair, or in an equivalent administrative position in higher education

  • Familiarity with mission and function of a comprehensive community college

  • Experience with online learning

  • Experience with program accreditation process

  • Ability to work variable hours including nights and weekends as work dictates

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One-year experience in a leadership role managing faculty and staff in an academic setting

  • Experience within a community college setting

  • Possess exemplary interpersonal skills (verbal and written) with demonstrated ability to communicate/interact effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population to provide a good impression of the College

  • Ability to provide leadership to the division

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, work independently, and be a team player, pay attention to detail, multi-task and maintain confidentiality

  • Excellent customer service skills in problem solving, analytical, decision-making, project management skills and time management

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities

  • Ability to work under stressful conditions

Details:

Reports To: Dean, Business Technologies Division

Position Level: Associate Dean

Comp. Range: $94,000/yr.

Contract Affiliation: Non-Bargaining

Status: Full time
