The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis (Bank) is searching for a Data scientist in the Community Development and Engagement (CDE) division.
In this position you will work to advance the division's efforts to advance the economic well-being of Indian Country and low- and moderate-income individuals, households, and communities. As an associate data scientist, you will support analysis conducted by CDE's team of researchers and policy experts. Additionally, you will maintain externally facing data dashboards, analyze large datasets, build and refine data visualizations, conduct code review, and occasionally coauthor new analysis on housing- and labor-related topics in CDE's areas of work.

Responsibilities:
Use code-based analytical tools to answer questions relevant to low- and moderate-income communities
Work with both public (e.g., decennial census, Current Population Survey, and American Community Survey) and restricted-access datasets to analyze socioeconomic trends and public policies affecting low- and moderate-income households
Respond to requests for data and data analyses; develop expertise on gathering data from a wide range of sources; stay current on data source developments both inside and outside the Federal Reserve System
Manage projects and relationships in a collaborative, team-based environment
Develop data visualizations to accompany articles describing research findings
Maintain public-facing data dashboards and other data tools
Document analytical work and data products
Qualifications:
Strong proficiency in computational/statistical programming with 2 years of relevant quantitative and programming work experience
High level of attention to detail and commitment to rigorous quantitative analysis
Experience with or strong willingness to learn dashboarding tools like R Shiny and Tableau, as well as version control tools like GitHub
Interest in public policy related to labor market policies and housing affordability
Enthusiasm for building expertise in new subject areas and technical tools
Ability to manage and adapt to multiple concurrent projects, shifting priorities, deadlines, and informational needs
Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a team setting as well as the willingness to work independently without extensive oversight
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with technical and non-technical staff
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Strong existing proficiency in R
Prior professional experience with collaborative coding and version control workflows
Prior analytical experience with core public data products (e.g., U.S. Census Bureau products, IPUMS)
Salary Range: $72,200 - $90,250 - $108,300
Salary offer will be based on qualifications/experience of the candidate, alignment with market data, the needs of the position, our total compensation package, and internal equity.
