Job Description:

Biogen is looking for a Associate Data Scientist to join our Data Science team in the Global Data and Analytics Center of Excellence within our commercial operations. As a member of the Data Science team, you will be tasked with weaving data together from across Biogen to help answer some of our biggest commercial questions. Utilizing your business knowledge, you will help move the company forward in our use of data and advanced applications of emerging technologies.

What You'll Take On:

As part of the data science team, you will be working directly with teams across our Commercial organization, including but not limited to: Market Research, Patient Services, Promotional Effectiveness, Forecasting, Digital Excellence and many others at a global and local level. You will work with these teams on some of our most complex questions in the organization.

You will be exposed to many different types of data and technology. This is a great position for someone who wants to be exposed to the use of advanced analytics in a corporate environment. Work will directly influence multiple business processes and will drive both long and short-term decisions across Biogen. Along with working closely with business partners, projects will be in conjunction with business intelligence, data engineers and project managers to produce and roll out high quality results.

This position will take data from multiple sources and aim to solve business problems using every method from statistical models to predictive machine learning models. Hire will be responsible for presenting rational behind models used, how it fits in with the project, and how the results will affect long term strategy and market opportunity.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Knowledge and proficiency in at least one scripting language (R or Python preferred) and confidence in utilizing SQL to pull, filter, and sort data from databases.

  • Proficiency in applying statistical models to data and knowledge of other machine learning practices (regressions, classifications, clusterings, etc.)

  • A strong entrepreneurial mindset when it comes to your own learning path. You're comfortable identifying what you know and have yet to learn, and actively work to close gaps in your knowledge and skill set.

  • Flexibility and willingness to change course, innovate toward new methods

  • Ability to present analytical data and strategic ideas in a clear, concise manner

  • A relentless drive to seek out feedback and incorporate it in an effort to improve both your understanding and related work products.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills with ability to build trusting relationships and buy-in to drive results.

  • Comfort in managing multiple priorities that range in scope from high level strategic initiatives to data cleaning.

Education

Undergraduate degree in STEM field or related discipline.

Ideally this would be in the Biotech or Pharmaceutical industry, but relevant experience from other industries would also be welcome. * Proficiency in articulating how technology can be used to gain greater efficiency and compliance. High proficiency in creating business cases in the vernacular of your business partners. * An ability to thrive in spite of ambiguity. * Willingness to build constructive tension with business partners to push norms and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. * Familiarity with data sets used for Market Access analysis, e.g. pricing, formulary, payer master, etc. Strong background with prevalent Market Access IT systems including Model N, PriceRight, and Veeva CRM. * IT project management skills with the ability to keep multiple projects moving forward. * Portfolio, Project, Budget and Vendor Management. * Coordination of IT Initiatives and priorities across Biogen. * Building and managing peer and management-level relationships through achievement of results, accountable to schedule, and allocation of resources and meeting customer needs. * Collaboration with the technical teams in Infrastructure and our shared development and delivery organization. We would expect the successful candidate to have both relevant experience and potential for further growth. We anticipate successful candidates will have roughly 8-10+ years' experience in the areas described.
