This Associate Counsel position will provide a broad range of transactional and product-level support to Amex Digital Labs, the team responsible for spearheading the Company's digital and mobile payments strategy and developing innovative ways to provide value to Card Members.

Here's just some of what you'll do in this role:

  • Support the drafting, negotiation and ongoing support of digital partnership agreements

  • Provide on-the-ground support and legal review of digital and mobile product features and capabilities from ideation through launch, including review of user experiences and disclosures, partner integration, business development initiatives, and marketing and servicing strategies

  • Engage in ongoing cross-functional collaboration to address privacy, consumer protection, compliance, bank regulatory, intellectual property, data security and other issues

  • Significantly interact with levels of management, numerous business teams and stakeholders across the Company

Are you ready for the challenge?

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree & J.D. from a highly respected law school

  • Qualified to practice law in NY

  • 3-5 years of corporate/M&A experience at a law firm or in-house

Preferred qualifications:

  • A lot of intellectual curiosity especially in the face of novel and emerging constructs

  • Experience with one or more of the following highly desirable: financial services, technology law, privacy, data security, IP, advertising and social media

  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands while maintaining high attention to detail and meeting deadlines

  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively

  • Ability to build relationships and partner with others to drive results

  • Ability to pivot appropriately when challenged with new information or evolving circumstances

  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Highly motivated, energetic and results-oriented personality

  • Travel: Little to none

The mission of the American Museum of Natural History is “to discover, interpret, and disseminate – through scientific research and education – knowledge about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe.” AMNH is a scientific, educational and cultural institution and its collections are among the largest and most comprehensive in the world. Scientific research at AMNH is carried out with a full-time scientific staff of more than 200 who work in paleontology, zoology, anthropology, astrophysics and earth sciences. AMNH scientists conduct more than 100 expeditions each year and also work worldwide to survey and study biological diversity, support educational programs, and mitigate threats to the Earth’s ecosystems. In total, the Museum employs more than 1,000 full-time staff, 300 part-time staff and has a volunteer team of roughly 1,000. The Museum’s Richard Gilder Graduate School is the first and only museum-based graduate school in the United States and offers a PhD in Comparative Biology and a Masters in the Art of Teaching with a specialization in Earth Science. This Attorney will work with the General Counsel and Associate Counsel to provide legal advice to Museum departments on a wide range of matters including labor and employment issues, litigation, insurance claims, construction and facilities matters, contracts, licenses, intellectual property matters and regulatory compliance. It is critical that the Attorney have an awareness and understanding of the issues that concern the Museum as a tax-exempt educational organization and a high-profile cultural institution, so that such issues are properly managed and appropriate legal and business advice is provided.
