Associate Counsel

U.S. General Counsel's Organization:

The mission of the U.S. General Counsel's Organization is to protect and support Adyen's vision through legal expertise and strategic advice. This helps our U.S. sales and account management teams to manage risk, identify opportunities, and deliver on Adyen's offering of exceptional products and services. The U.S. General Counsel's Organization at Adyen is seeking an Associate Counsel to provide legal and strategic assistance to Adyen's e-commerce, MarketPay, and POS activities.

What you'll do

This position will play a key role amongst a core group of international lawyers responsible for addressing the legal and regulatory requirements associated with Adyen's acquiring and retaining merchants. The successful applicant will:

  • Draft and review a wide variety of commercial contracts and provide practical, business-oriented advice to the sales and account management teams

  • Provide legal advice on different areas of law, such as finance and money service business law, general contract law, anti-money laundering law, consumer protection and data privacy law

  • Assist U.S. regulators, external auditors, and oversight of external counsel

  • Identify and provide legal interpretation on material new, or changes to, laws and regulations which impact the business activities and affairs of Adyen

Who you are

  • J.D. with admission to practice law in the U.S. (New York preferred)

  • 7 years of experience in complex, high volume legal, compliance and/or regulatory matters preferred.

  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills with ability to convey legal advice clearly and synthesize complex legal issues.

  • Proven ability to research, interpret and summarize legal requirements in easily understood terms; and, determine the regulatory impact of such requirements to business initiatives.

  • Must be able to work within a team environment or independently.

  • Self-motivated, reliable, adaptable and detail-oriented.

  • Capable of handling multiple assignments simultaneously.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

  • Proven ability to interface and develop rapport with regulators.

  • Ability to adhere to the 'Adyen Formula'

  • Experience in reviewing and interpreting complex contracts and other legal documentation.

  • Experience with the Nationwide Multi-state Licensing System highly preferred

Additional Details:

  • Location: San Francisco, California

  • Travel: Regular travel to New York, occasional overseas travel required.

The Law Department partners with the company's business leaders to embrace legal and ethical behavior in the achievement of the company's mission. It is comprised of top tier, analytical and intelligent attorneys; paralegals; contract and regulatory specialists; compliance specialists; and administrative support staff. The AGC will provide advice and counsel on a broad range of health law and managed care law issues, with a particular focus on large account, employer-sponsored health coverage, both insured and self-funded, and related regulatory, contractual, and legal matters. The AGC must comfortably adapt to change, skillfully and quickly master new responsibilities, demonstrate strong business acumen, and possess a strong drive for excellence. Responsibilities: * Provide thoughtful, creative, and timely legal advice to various BSC business units * Provide well-informed legal advice and guidance with respect to various initiatives supporting the mission of the company * Work collaboratively with a broad range of people, developing and maintaining strong relationships between the Law Department and BSC's business units * Communicate with regulatory agencies to submit and seek approval of filings and responses to audits and examinations * Healthcare expertise, with experience providing advice on employer sponsored health plans, both insured and self-funded; * Knowledge of ERISA, the ACA & the California regulatory environment including the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act and/or the California Insurance Code; * 10 years of experience providing legal advice on general health insurance and managed care legal issues * Experience representing health care service plans and/or large health insurers * Combination of law firm and in-house experience desired * JD from a respected law school and Bar admission (CA preferred) Personal Qualifications: * Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a keen ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization * Personal presence, credibility, and the professional demeanor necessary to interact with company management, regulatory bodies, and business units with persuasiveness and confidence * Collaborative team player with an ability to play multiple roles Blue Shield Of California San Francisco CA
