Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented attorney to be based in Seattle, WA OR Arlington, VA to support Amazon Web Services, a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute, storage, database, messaging, and other software-as-service products.

We're looking for an attorney to help support AWS' business applications services. In this role, you'll serve as the primary attorney for several AWS services and work with internal business clients to advise on challenging legal issues related to the development of these services. Your responsibilities will include identifying legal risks and proposing mitigation strategies, overseeing regulatory and contractual compliance, negotiating strategic and technology licensing agreements, and analyzing and proposing policy positions around the world.

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admitted to at least one state bar (or equivalent)

  • 2+ years of sophisticated legal experience

  • 2-4 years experience at national or international law firm

  • In-house experience at a technology company

  • Experience with IP licensing and technology transactions, data privacy, telecom regulations, cloud computing, or enterprise software

  • Sound and practical business judgment as well as common sense

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Do it here. What you'll be doing... Verizon seeks an energetic, creative, business-oriented attorney to join its legal team supporting Verizon's Consumer Products Group organization. The ideal candidate will be a team player with significant legal experience developing and launching consumer-focused products and services. The candidate must have excellent inter-personal and communication skills, demonstrated good judgment, and a proven track record of advising clients in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.In addition to the above, the position will include the following responsibilities: Reviewing and advising on new and existing consumer products and services;Providing day-to-day support for the product development teams;Prompt review of new product offerings and changes to existing consumer products, including mobile apps and service platforms;Able to develop positive relationships with internal partners and external stakeholders.Coordinating internally and externally among different client organizations, subject matter experts, legal and other groups in addressing product related issues, including educating and training employees;Coordinating with business, legal, external affairs and other groups to ensure effective advocacy of product strategies;Ensuring compliance with existing policies, federal and state laws and regulations and assisting in formulation of solutions to any identified problem areas exposing company to risk;Drafting and reviewing product terms of service, trial agreements, license agreements, FAQs, technical requirements, customer care and training scripts as well as product marketing collateral and advertising copy;Advising on customer and partner contract issues;Assessing legislative or regulatory developments with actual or potential impact on key product initiatives and strategies. What we're looking for... You'll need to have: JD degree and six or more years of relevant attorney work experience in a large law firm or corporate in-house department.Bar membership in good standing and needed licenses.Knowledge and substantive experience handling banking and consumer financial products and services, including knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to banking including KYC, UDAAP and BSA/AML.Background in the financial services, fintech or credit card industry, including in the area of compliance, payments and card processing.Willingness to travel. Even better if you have one or more of the following: Familiarity with and strong interest in emerging fintech industry.Knowledge and substantive experience handling insurance regulatory work.Background in providing expert advice on routine and complex insurance matters, including devices, product design and implementation.Knowledge and prior experience with federal and state consumer protection laws, regulations and general consumer protection issues.Experience with technology clients.Familiarity with Verizon consumer services.Strong problem-solving skills.Highly developed analytical reasoning skills, report analysis and keen attention to detail and processes.Strong project management skills with proven track record of managing complex projects from inception to completion and team management skills.Strong business knowledge and confident decision making skills.Strong interpersonal skills, motivational and leadership skills.Ability to appropriately balance legal and business risks.Strong written and verbal communication skills.
