The Theriogneology Service is a busy service in the veterinary teaching hospital that provides service to a variety of small and large animal clients. This service provides a wide variety of animal reproductive services to the client. This person will provide technical veterinary support to faculty, house officers, and students. It is essential that this person has expertise in appropriate restraint of canine, equine, and a variety of other livestock. This individual will be part of the Theriogneology team providing instruction to veterinary students on proper and safe restraint, a variety of techniques, procedures, and diagnostic testing.

ASSOCIATE CLNICAL SPECIALIST 1

  • Assist with technical support to teaching and clinical programs in animal reproduction, including animal care, handling and sampling during reproductive procedures in large and small domestic animals, in particular horses and dogs. Coordinate daily activities with senior students, assist with clinical labs to veterinary students, and coordinate schedule of work-study students. Clinical schedule permitting, technical assistance with Theriogneology labs for Phase I and II of the DVM curriculum will be requested.

  • Coordinate the use of the Theriogneology laboratory and exam room. Participate in cleaning, stocking and preparing rooms for treatments and diagnostic procedures. Coordinate the ordering of specialized materials for the Theriogneology service in the veterinary teaching hospital.

  • Assist with the duties for capturing patient charges for procedures, supplies and professional services and ensure appropriates charges are being entered and appropriately documented in the medical record.

  • Perform and adhere to protocols for infectious disease control of the large animal hospital and hospitalized patients by supervising or performing (via hospital guidelines) disease-monitoring procedures such as obtaining surveillance cultures of patients and environment, and appropriate disinfection of equipment/environment.

  • Assist with restraint of healthy large and small animals of any age, size or demeanor. Assist owners/handlers with loading and unloading of patients; restrain patients (via physical or chemical means) for examination, diagnostic and treatment procedures. Assist in instruction of students, by example and tutorial, safe restraint techniques.

  • Assist with performing the maintenance, use and cleaning (to include basic trouble shooting) of highly technical equipment such as ultrasound machines, endoscopes, microscopes, semen freezing equipment, and hormone analysis machines. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree OR Associates degree in Veterinary Technology OR CVT or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Veterinary Technician or equivalent (Licensed, registered)

Special or Physical Qualifications (ALL LEVELS):

This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.

Required to be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach and/or climb a ladder, kneel or sit on the floor, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.

Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
