WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Civil/Geotechnical Engineer in our Mine Stability group in Lakewood, CO. Will consider multiple locations, including: Tucson, AZ; Reno, NV; Portland, OR; or Salt Lake City, UT. You will collaborate with talented and diverse professionals while supporting the delivery of open pit and underground mine geotechnical services projects. Your Impact

  • Supporting intermediate and senior engineering staff in completion of projects in the area of Open Pit and Underground mining rock mechanics and mine closure

  • Performing field work, data collection, field testing, data analysis, excavation stability assessments, and calculations

  • Field work will include some aspects of surveying, drilling coordination, geotechnical core logging/mapping, and construction monitoring

  • Data reduction and analysis of investigation data

  • Assisting with geotechnical characterization and assessments in support of underground, open pit, and mine closure rock mechanics projects

  • Preparing and working with 2D and 3D numerical models

  • Assisting with the preparation of technical reports

  • Role will include a combination of office and field work

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • B.A.Sc or B.Eng. in Civil, Mining or Geological Engineering.

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.

  • Demonstrated background in rock engineering and mine closure

  • Demonstrates a 'Safety First" focus attitude and traits in line with WSP's core values

  • Ability to complete field and office work as necessary, which may involve domestic or international work outside of normal business hours

  • Ability to travel and work in other WSP offices as required

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment (ability to communicate with clients would be an asset)

  • Proficient in AutoCAD

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer usage

  • Possesses or eligible to receive EIT Certification

  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant consulting or operating experience in a mining or consulting setting

  • Postgraduate qualification in rock mechanics or geotechnical engineering

  • Previous experience with FLAC, FLAC3D, UDEC, 3DEC, PLAXIS 2D/3D

  • Knowledge of programming language (VBA, Python, or other)

  • Willingness to learn numerical modeling for geotechnical and rock mechanics applications

Compensation:

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $65,400 - $107,910

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
