Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

This is an Information Technology (IT) Leadership position responsible for project management, resource management, supervision of IT professionals, and communication of IT services and support. This individual is responsible for IT strategic and/or tactical planning, implementation and evaluation for a unit, department, college, or enterprise.

Additionally, the individual is responsible for effective communication among faculty, staff, administration, students, and appropriate IT resource providers at the University. This position is responsible for the identification, selection, and application of appropriate technology resources to support the unit of responsibility and the University goals for instruction, research, and public service. Technology services provided under the leadership of this position meet University standards for design, security, and delivery. The individual in this position will have some institutional scope as well as decision-making responsibilities at the unit level.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Experience managing IT Infrastructure Teams

  • Understanding of systems engineering, network engineering, and IT infrastructure.

  • Ability to work independently and see projects through to completion

  • Ability to communicate well with all levels of management

  • Ability to direct the design, implementation, and management of complex IT systems and networks

  • People skills or equivalent professional development skills around leadership

Duties/Responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversight for Systems Engineering.

a. Plan projects, assign tasks, track progress on projects and service delivery.

b. Coordinate activities of the teams and ensure that operational goals are met in a timely fashion.

c. Guide, direct, and encourage increased efficiency, continual improvement, creative cloud and on-prem solutions and collaboration within System Engineering and campus clients.

d. Guide the development, maintenance, and enforcement of relevant UGA system, network, and cloud hosted standards

e. Guide, direct, and encourage increased efficiency, continual improvement, creative solutions, and collaboration within System Engineering and campus clients.

f. Coordinate and support disaster recovery documentation and testing.

g. Oversee management and maintenance of system documentation.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Provide leadership over operations and projects of Network Engineering.

a. Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans for network infrastructure that align with the organization's overall IT strategy and operational goals.

b. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and enhancements to improve system performance and cost-effectiveness.

c. Provide leadership and oversight for the design and maintenance of the organization's network architecture, including both hardware and software components.

d. Ensure that network management practices comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

e. Ensure the network is scalable, secure, and robust to support the needs of the organization.

f. Provide oversight to major network-related projects, from conception through implementation, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

g. Coordinate with other IT teams and business units to ensure network solutions meet organizational needs and integrate seamlessly with other systems.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversight for cloud infrastructure and collaboration tools.

a. Develop and implement IT strategies that align with the organization's overall business goals, focusing on maximizing the utility and efficiency of cloud hosting and Collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams.

b. Oversee the administration and operation of the organization's cloud environment, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and security of cloud services and resources.

c. Manage the deployment, customization, and maintenance of collaboration and communication tools, ensuring they meet the needs of the organization effectively.

d. Ensure all deployments hosted in the cloud comply with relevant regulations and industry standards, including data protection policies and cybersecurity measures.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Financial and fiscal responsibilities and direction for Systems and Network Engineering.

a. Develop, monitor and maintain budgets and accounts for Systems and Network Engineering.

b. Work cooperatively with EITS Finance and Business Services and other appropriate EITS and UGA departments.

c. Plan projects, assign tasks, track progress on projects and service delivery.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Direct, foster and oversee the development and maintenance of cooperative relationships with other UGA units.

a. Ensure that healthy cooperative relationships are maintained with key units with a focus on service delivery to the UGA campus at large.

b. Coordinate activities of the teams and ensure that operational goals are met in a timely fashion.

c. Anticipates and estimates resource needs, develops job postings and screens applicants for hiring.

d. Work collaboratively with other units and departments to determine the scope and requirements of MOU and SLA agreements.

e. Develop and implement written agreements.

f. Monitor services provided against responsibilities and metrics in agreements and ensure that they are being met.

g. Periodically discuss services being provided through agreements with customers to ensure that all parties are satisfied with the services provided.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities

Manage assets under the purview of Systems and Network Engineering.

a. Ensure that EITS, UGA and State of Georgia policies, rules, and guidelines are followed for UGA equipment.

b. Maintain asset and inventory information for equipment under the purview of Network Infrastructure and Services.

c. Ensure that production equipment is under appropriate hardware and software vendor maintenance contracts for services such as Network Support Partnership.

Serve in other roles as assigned by EITS management.
