Position Summary The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) is a member of the administrative team and will serve on various committees at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, while collaborating with the Orlando Health leadership, Hospital President and administration, hospital management team, hospital medical staff leadership and the medical staff. The ACNO plans, leads, organizes, directs & evaluates the delivery of patient care to achieve sustained outcomes.

Key components of this leadership role include monitoring of quality, patient satisfaction, and budgeting standards, while managing to achieve hospital and organization wide goals. Responsibilities Ensures that a continuous improvement approach is implemented to measure actual performance against established standards for clinical and non-clinical services throughout the hospital and organization.

Develops and implements mechanisms to ensure a uniform quality of nursing and patient care wherever nursing and patient care is provided.

Ensures a method to monitor customer satisfaction with respect to services delivered, utilizing corporate and/or unit specific tools. Establishes mechanisms to encourage research and to incorporate research findings into standards of care and policies and procedures.

Measures actual budgetary performance (revenue, expense, staffing) against standards, and ensures variances are within established targets.

Evaluates performance of persons reporting to the position against organizational, departmental, and personal goals and objectives. Ensures that safety, health, and regulatory standards are attained in the divisions assigned.

Ensures that a program is maintained to encourage the recruitment and retention of high-quality team members.

Participates in professional, collegiate, and community activities. Develops/ implements personal goals/objectives that support the organization's strategic/operating plans and patient care services.

Assures that professional nursing standards are effectively carried out throughout hospital.

Provides accountability and coordination of nursing services within the hospital. Establishes budget requirements and maintains areas of responsibility within budgetary limitation.

Speaks on behalf of hospital allied nursing services in established meetings of hospital leadership, medical staff, and governing bodies.

Develops staff to make effective decisions and delegates authority to lowest appropriate level. Acts as resource person and role model for staff.

Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues related to nursing services, and manages situations to reduce risk to patients, staff, and the organization.

Participates in meetings where discussion is held regarding hospital's mission, strategic planning, budget planning, operational planning and review of policies that directly or indirectly affect patient care, customer satisfaction, quality and/or operations of the hospital. Serves as a member of various hospital and organizational committees.

Collaborates with other hospital leaders and educators to influence curriculum, including clinical and/or management learning experience.

Participates with the CNO in developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising nursing practice and ensures implementation of the nursing process. Establishes and maintains an open and positive working relationship with board members, physicians, managers, employees, patients and visitors and the community.

Participates with leaders from management, medical staff and patient care areas in hospital's decision making structure and process.

Participates in evaluating, selecting, and integrating health care technology and information management systems that support nursing service needs. Participates in any contract or negotiations, which nursing services of the hospital.

Monitors compliance of contracts.

Recruits, develops, retains, and evaluates qualified managers and staff members, recognizing the full accomplishments of staff assigned duties and responsibilities. Participates actively with other Orlando Health Administrators and the Nurse Executive Council.

Develops, interprets, and promotes the formation of the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Orlando Health. Qualifications Required Education Graduate of an approved school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or graduate degree in business or health-related field.

Licensure/Certification Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) required. Must currently possess a National leadership board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC); NEA-BC or able to obtain within 2 years. Experience Six years' experience in nursing leadership (management level or higher) is required.

Experience in managing clinical services in a managed care environment, including productivity enhancement, cost reduction, new program development, and quality management is also required. Must demonstrate the ability to affect good medical staff relations while working with highly qualified physicians.
