Hitachi America, Ltd. (www.hitachi-america.us) is searching for an experienced Product Development Chemist to join the Industrial Components & Equipment Division (ICED) in our Charlotte, NC office. This position will be responsible for developing inks, primarily for Hitachi's Continuous Inkjet Printer products, that will meet market requirements and specifications. He/She will be responsible for new product development from concept to market release, including but not limited to, formulation, testing, liaising with the hardware development team, qualifying and validating the product at the customer site and product documentation for release.
Responsible for hands-on development, testing and qualifying inkjet inks for industrial continuous inkjet (CIJ) printers.
Must be able to develop a product from concept to production, with the ability to test products in end users' environment (travel may be required).
Interacts and communicates with field technicians to resolve issues and challenges as they arise in the field.
Implements safety practices in the laboratory and in manufacturing. Responsible for safety and implementation of CHP in the laboratory.
Able to supervise and/or direct technician(s) in the absence of supervisor.
Interacts with development Engineers to discuss and resolve technical issues.
Creates product documentation and MSDS.
The successful candidate must have a BS in Chemistry or a related technical field and/or equivalent years of experience in formulation in the ink industry.
Five or more years of ink development experience and/or experience developing stable pigment dispersions is required. This will include a strong knowledge of related chemicals and their interactions.
If experienced with ink development then knowledge of pigment dispersions and general chemical product development experience is a plus.
Good mechanical and/or electrical skills in order to test new ink products and troubleshoot printers if necessary.
Safety awareness in the laboratory and manufacturing environment.
Self-starter, high initiative, self-directed requiring minimal direction and supervision.
Must have good analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Willingness to travel 10-15% of the time domestically and internationally as needed.
