Position: Buyer

Department: Purchasing

Reports To: Materials Manager

The selected candidate will be responsible for providing KVH with products and services that are of maximum quality, minimum cost and within the needed lead time by identifying, evaluating and developing global suppliers.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as well:

  • Manages all aspects of purchase orders from start to finish.

  • Negotiate, benchmark, and manage supplier agreements.

  • Identify cost reduction opportunities.

  • Develop and manage collaborative relationships with vendors

  • Develop new lower cost global sources. Work with engineering and quality to make sure suppliers are technically qualified.

  • Follows up in a timely fashion with suppliers on late deliveries, obtain shipping confirmations/proof of delivery as required.

  • Prints daily reports, open order report and overdue report, execute purchase orders as system requirements indicate.

  • Works with Accounts Payable to resolve accounting discrepancies as needed.

  • Monitors price changes from suppliers and reviews with the Materials Managers.

  • Updates MRP with changes to supplier pricing, lead time,

  • Enters and releases requirements from blanket orders.

  • Responsible for processing demand changes through the ERP system.

  • Responsible for the development of landed costs (duty & freight).

  • Negotiate favorable freight terms with key freight forwarders.

  • Help to expedite critical items that are holding up the building of products.

  • Support Supplier Scorecard Program

  • Track and report cost reduction progress for initiated projects.

  • Review inventory levels, support inventory reduction plans.


  • BA/BS in Business, Engineering or Supply Chain

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant Procurement experience including purchasing: PCBs, electro-mechanical assemblies, cables and electronic components. Technical understanding of electronic components and the Contract Manufacturing processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate with suppliers.

  • Experience with a technology environment

  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal and listening.

  • Must have the ability to deal with all levels of the company.

  • Ability to analyze a problem and recommend solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities Ability to be flexible and adapt to change
