Summary:

The Hershey Company Memphis plant is a Non-Union plant producing products such as Ice Breakers, Breath Savers, and Good & Plenty, in a high-speed complex environment.

Oversee the detailed scheduling and material planning functions for the Memphis Plant to ensure development and execution of plans that meet the organization's service objectives at the lowest delivered cost. Manage Memphis Operations Planning and Logistics Department daily tasks and ensure internal and external customer requirements are satisfied

The Associate Business Unit Leader is responsible for providing supply chain leadership to all three shifts. Directly manages all daily activities and long-term objectives of the area or department, in conjunction with managers across shifts or departments. Responsible for plant and company goals by providing proactive, efficient, and reliable leadership for one to three shifts in a seven-day working environment.

Responsibilities:

As an Associate Business Unit Leader:

  • Oversee annual budget preparation, directing the implementation, and maintaining strong budgetary control of direct, indirect and unit costs.

  • Provide leadership and participate during problem solving across areas / depts. / shifts. Implement recommendations / solutions. These initiatives can involve people, product, or equipment issues.

  • Coach, direct, train and develop the 2nd & 3rd shift supervisors to work efficiently across multiple career paths while supporting the manufacturing mission. Administer performance management.

  • Establish and plan for all training that will ensure all members of the department are aligned with company, plant, and department objectives. Lead and maintain the team as a world class organization.

  • Coordinate, organize and deliver communication activities, regarding objectives, results and plans within the department and all other plant functions to assure total seamless operation. Make necessary judgment calls on specific goal alignment to achieve manufacturing excellence.

  • Establish, monitor, and control the proper implementation and administration of all plant and department procedures.

  • Manage and support the activities of a staff of professionals in performing the operations planning and logistics functions for the plant

  • Provide Supply Chain support and knowledge to Business Unit Leaders regarding, finished good requirements and constraints and logistical matters regarding trailer accessibility and limits within the plant

  • Analyze and evaluate relevant business information to make critical decisions which may impact bottom line results

  • Participate in developing cross-functional process improvement initiatives that involve the scheduling aspect of manufacturing with a focus on increasing flexibility and customer responsiveness while driving down overall supply chain costs

  • Connect with Corporate Commodities, Buyers, and S&OP regarding constrained material planning for raw materials, corrugate and primary packaging.

  • Perform the necessary administrative tasks to communicate business performance and related opportunities to colleagues and management. This includes preparing written reports, as well as developing budgets, salary planning, and maintaining performance management documentation.

  • Ensure that all aspects of SAP are properly implemented and utilized. Analyze data, lead initiatives to change direction based on outcomes. Responsible for execution of projects plant wide.

  • Provide vision and leadership to champion initiatives, drive, and implement change to optimize the business focusing on safety, quality, and costs.

  • Responsible for determining appropriate delegation of assignments, following up and taking ownership of the delegated assignments.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to provide leadership to supervisors and cooperatively work with other managers as a team player

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities in high-speed manufacturing systems

  • Able to work independently and make decisions

  • Advanced math skills including budgetary and cost control competency

  • Computer literacy with suite of MS Office applications

  • SAP or similar ERP system skills is a plus

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Candidate must be willing to relocate to other Hershey facility to be a BU Leader as part of their career development

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or related technical discipline preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in food manufacturing or equivalent experience as a manager/ supervisor in a high-speed, complex environment preferred

  • 2+ years in a leadership role preferred

  • Knowledge of supply chain management principles, with particular focus on the production and inventory management disciplines, labor principles and logistics

  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making ability

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Strong consensus building and team building skills

  • Coaching and personal development ability
