The Jacksonville office of Kubicki Draper, is currently seeking an Associate Attorney with at least 3+ years of experience practicing law in the state of Florida, preferably in the area of First Party Property.


  • Stellar academic credentials
  • Strong legal research and excellent writing skills, as well as possess strong/persuasive oral advocacy
  • Previous experience in litigation, particularly in the areas of Insurance Defense and/or First Party Property
  • Desire to excel and work your way up the ranks of the law firm
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to our clients, with a client first mindset
  • Highly organized, with clear and concise communication style
  • Must be a self-starter and goal-oriented with a focus on long-term career goals
  • Licensed member of the Florida Bar and in good standing

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must be competent & proficient in the use of Word, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint & Excel
  • Draft/review substantive pleadings and motions
  • Respond to motions & discovery
  • Attend/chair hearings, depositions, mediations, meetings with clients, as well as negotiate settlements
  • Communicate in a highly effective manner with team members and clients
  • Ability to work in a fast paced evolving environment

We will consider candidates that reside near the San Diego office if it is within a 100-mile radius of the office location.</p><p>In this position you will provide legal representation to USAA members, insured clients and USAA entities in all phases of civil litigation and legal proceedings pertaining to covered losses. Exercises independent legal discretion and judgment to fully defend all clients.</p><p>About USAA</p><p>USAA knows what it means to serve. This singular mission requires a dedication to innovative thinking at every level.</p><p>Job Requirements</p><ul><li><p>Defends simple to moderate insurance defense cases through arbitration, trial, and possible appeal for clients on cases assigned. May handle and/or assist with complex litigation cases.</p></li><li><p>Appears in court as required, including arbitrations, trials and mediations.</p></li><li><p>Provides legal advice, develops and implements legal strategy and ongoing budget projections to Claims Litigation, and clients, as appropriate on assigned cases.</p></li><li><p>Proactively identifies and manages existing and emerging risks. Follows written risk and compliance policies and procedures.</p></li><li><p>Prepares legal pleadings, motions, statements, memoranda, trial briefs and other legal documents on assigned cases. Takes and defends depositions.</p></li><li><p>Conducts direct settlement negotiations with plaintiffs' attorneys.</p></li><li><p>Stays current on all relevant statutes, case law, office and trial-related technology. Attends courses as assigned to maintain appropriate skill sets for trial.</p></li><li><p>Provides training to support staff, P&amp;C Claims and Claims Litigation regarding changes in law, litigation and/or and other processes</p></li></ul><p>Minimum Requirements:</p><ul><li><p>Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school.</p></li><li><p>Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school required.</p></li><li><p>6 years of experience practicing law handling personal injury or civil litigation or trial cases.</p></li><li><p>Licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction(s) served.</p></li><li><p>Experience practicing law in the court systems within the geographic area being served.</p></li><li><p>Ability to perform online legal research.</p></li><li><p>Excellent communication and presentation skills.</p></li></ul><p>Preferred Experience</p><ul><li><p>Six plus years handling personal injury/property damage cases.</p></li><li><p>Experience preparing reports and memos for Claims including Initial Case analysis, discovery and deposition reports, and Pre-trail reports and strategy.</p></li><li><p>Heavy trial experience, including verdicts, in the Courts of Florida.</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with the Court Systems in the geographic area being served.</p></li><li><p>Defense Counsel background</p></li></ul><p>The above description reflects the details considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job and should not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be performed in the job.</p><p>Compensation:</p><p>USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position.
