An Independent Wealth Management firm in Denver is looking for an Associate Advisor who will report to the Lead Advisor and is responsible for providing technical support for the Lead Advisor and serves as the client contact for customer relationship management and account servicing. This position requires a good understanding of the financial services industry and products and is critical in handling the day-to-day client managment on behalf of the Lead Advisor. Responsibilities include data gathering, modeling, case design, scenario building, and plan presentation development.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports Lead Advisor of a large book of business including managing client needs regarding service, asset allocation, case design, financial planning, and technical assistance
  • Learn the aspect of the Lead Advisor position and prepare to service clients independently
  • Participate with the Lead Advisor in client planning and review meetings
  • Manage data and plans in financial planning software
  • Responsible for client meeting preparation and follow-up including assembling requisite paperwork, account reviews, report generation and meeting documentation
  • Analyze asset allocation and generate initial and rebalancing trades
  • Deepen client relationships and establish credibility and rapport both in person and via phone
  • Clearly articulate complex concepts to customers
  • Research investment managers, services, products, and pricing for consideration by the Investment Committee
  • Proactively communicating with clients and following up on all contacts assigned
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple and competing priorities on a daily basis in pursuit of business objectives
  • Understand and leverage the resources available from the Broker Dealer to their fullest extent

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

  • Strong understanding of financial services industry and diverse investment products
  • Expert computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point) are essential
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; able to work independently and effectively manage multiple tasks at once
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and internal partners and influence others without direct control

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business or related field
  • The ideal candidate will have 3 or more years' experience in the financial services industry, and a desire to be part of a team servicing clients of the firm. A strong understanding of broker/dealer operations and financial services products are very important.
  • Previous experience in the independent financial services culture is preferred

  • Series 7 and 66 required
  • CFP certificate preferred (or candidate actively pursuing certification)

The Advisor Development role is a 12 month training program for our returning Merrill Lynch Wealth Management interns who wish to build a wealth management business and become a full-fledged Financial Advisor. It is a structured and disciplined program that demonstrates our on-going commitment to the growth and progress of our Merrill Lynch Financial Advisors. Advisor development program participants will have the opportunity to build upon their learnings from their intern experience by passing required FINRA registration exams, learning the client centric goals-based approach for client service, build business acumen to understand the vast opportunities to leverage with clients across Bank of America and Merrill Lynch, and complete a robust training curriculum with key milestones. Throughout the 12 month program, participants will have on the job application with work assignments, knowledge checks and assessments to determine progress.
