The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa invites applications from candidates studying behavioral, cognitive, or affective change. This search is part of a multiyear effort to build a community of collaborative scholars who study the mechanisms and processes of learning and plasticity in humans and non-human animals at multiple levels of analysis and from a diversity of perspectives.
This search is open to applicants across all areas of psychology (e.g., clinical, social, developmental, and cognitive psychology) who use behavioral and/or neuroscience approaches. We are also interested in applicants from allied fields (e.g., robotics, education) and those who work in interdisciplinary areas (e.g., computational neuroscience, socioemotional development). We are focusing these hires at the rank of assistant and associate professor. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, with screening of applicants beginning on September 4, 2018.
Appointments will begin as early as August 2019.
The University of Iowa is a leading public university located in Iowa City, a midsize community with a high quality of life. The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences is experiencing vigorous growth and enhancement, including construction of a new building.
The University is also making substantial investments in neurosciencealready a large community with more than 100 faculty members across five colleges and 26 departmentsincluding the recent founding of the Iowa Neuroscience Institute and the creation of a new undergraduate major in neuroscience. The DeLTA Center brings together a vibrant campus-wide community of researchers interested in all aspects of learning and development.
There are extensive opportunities for collaboration with researchers in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Carver College of Medicine, the College of Education, and the College of Public Health.
The university also supports a variety of state-of-the-art research facilities, including the Iowa Magnetic Resonance Facility, which includes 3T and 7T scanners, the Central Microscopy Research Facility, and the Iowa Institute of Human Genetics.
