This role would involve the following activities: Entry-level structures engineers will analyze, research, and develop metallic, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design and operation. They will engage in specimen, component, and engine tests of their structural materials.
Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue, or thermal analysis. Entry-level structures engineers will participate in multi-discipline teams to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight. The candidate will also plan and cover validation testing (engine & rig) and data-reduction.
Other duties include supporting production and in-service field investigations, as well as using Finite-element and classical methods to perform strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, damage tolerance, containment, kinematic and optimization analyses. Collaborate with other disciplines as part of the Integrated Product Team concept to optimize designs and process for cost, weight, and performance. This position is in Compression Section Engineering and may be part of the Engineering Development Program at Pratt & Whitney.
The Engineering Development Program, or EDP, is a multi-year program for new college hires that has been implemented to: 1) accelerate technical capability through substantive work rotations focused in specific disciplines; and 2) connect EDP participants with a network of technical resources & engineering experts. The EDP offers new employees the opportunity to rotate through assignments in the organization that provide focused classroom training & technical work experiences. Previous internship experience preferred
Expected Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent for Summer 2019
