Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Biotherapeutics and Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) Technology lead scientist to join the Protein Engineering and Modalities group at our company in South San Francisco. Based on your deep understanding of biotherapeutics and ADCs, you will identify and test strategies to increase target tissue specificity, reduce off-target tissue uptake and increase the therapeutic index of biotherapeutics and ADCs. You will design molecules, coordinate production, plan experiments and through collaborations will test these molecules with the aspiration to build next-generation biotherapeutics with ground-breaking properties. You will be part of a fast-paced and diverse team developing innovative protein therapeutics that will have a direct impact on patient lives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Invent and evaluate novel biotherapeutics and ADC formats

  • Design molecules and coordinate production

  • Participate hands-on in the production, characterization and optimization of biotherapeutics and ADCs

  • Together with collaborators in chemistry, oncology, Pharmacokinetics (PK) sciences, formulations science and others, test these novel biotherapeutics and ADC formats preclinically

  • Develop new applications for biotherapeutics and ADC modality and generate project ideas

Minimum Education Requirement

Ph.D. or equivalent with four or more years of professional experience or Master's degree with 8 or more years of professional experience or Bachelor's degree with 12 or more years of professional experience is required.

Desired Experience and Skills

  • Deep understanding of tumor and tissue targeting of biotherapeutics and ADCs including mechanisms that lead to success and tolerability issues of these modalities in the clinic

  • Strong background and hands-on experience in protein design, expression, purification, characterization and protein conjugation with small molecules including site-specific antibody conjugation technologies

  • Experience with Immunglobulin G (IgG), antibody fragments, IgA, IgM and bioconjugates

  • Experience with oral and subcutaneous delivery, in vitro translation/transcription and unnatural amino acid incorporation, is a plus

  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking innovator with a good track record in developing novel biotherapeutics and/or ADC formats

  • Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills
