Position Summary Information

General Description/Position Purpose

The Associate Director of Career Development reports to the Senior Director of the Career Center. The Associate Director will coach undergraduate and graduate students and alumni to assist them with identifying academic and career goals while aligning those goals with an appropriate degree program and career readiness activities. The Associate Director will implement various career related programming and resources. The Associate Director will lead, plan, organize and administer placement services while ensuring their effective and efficient delivery that meets the University's needs.

Responsibilities:

General

  • Lead the hiring and training of all graduate assistants.

  • Ensure that all student training is accurate, timely, and consistent.

  • Supervise graduate assistants and practicum/field/intern students.

  • Support the initiatives of other department teams and committees as assigned, up to two hours per week.

  • Represent the Career Center and the university at pre-assigned on campus events and in the South Central Pennsylvania region's professional community through participation in programs and events sponsored by regional professional associations and chambers of commerce, in coordination with other members of the team.

  • Serve as a liaison to assigned academic college(s) maintaining relationships, communications, providing resources and coordinating experiential learning and career development programs and activities. Connects with relevant team members on career development programs and activities.

  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Career Development

  • Coach/counsel students and alumni on career development and experiential learning, including resume, cover letter, reference, application, and essay review services, through individual and group appointments for an average of 15 hours per week.

  • Analyze interests, aptitudes, abilities, previous work experience, personal traits, and desired lifestyle to assist students in making well-informed career choices.

  • Plan and coordinate career development workshops, classroom presentation, and informational programs for an average of four one-hour sessions per week.

  • Provide support and assistance to Career Ambassadors during express hours.

  • Utilize various tools (ie: FOCUS, MBTI, Suitable, Handshake, etc) to facilitate career activities.

  • Implement career development programming, including but not limited to Pathways to Success conference, Raider Career Ready program, and Resume Boot Camp.

  • Participate in Career Center activities such as the career fair, Ship in the City, networking events, and other activities as determined by the Senior Director.

  • Remain relevant to career development trends and research and applies knowledge for the growth and development of the University.

Raider Ready Professional Dress Closet

  • In collaboration with the Senior Director, lead the implementation of the dress closet strategy and ensure success of goals and objectives.

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the dress closet.

  • Organize and oversee student workers and volunteers for the dress closet.

  • Build strong community and employer relationships to ensure continual support of the dress closet.

  • Ensure that the dress closet is accessible to all students at SU.

  • Deliver the highest level of customer service with a focus on inclusivity.

  • Develop and deliver gender neutral training to professional staff, student workers and graduate assistants, and faculty.

  • Plan and conduct marketing campaigns to raise awareness and increase visits to the dress closet.

  • Plan and execute special events to increase offerings and expand visibility of the dress closet.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Master's degree in Counseling or closely related field and a minimum of two years of experience in a career services area required.

  • Must possess experience in a collegiate environment to understand the academic culture and must have the ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators.

  • Experience with career-based technology like Handshake/Symplicity.

  • Experience in presenting workshops and programs to large and small groups of students and faculty.

  • Thorough understanding of experiential education and career advising.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity.

  • Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer relations and internship programs, policies.

  • Proficiency with windows environment including word processing, knowledge or database programs.

  • Must be a self-starter and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently as a leader and as part of a team.

  • Ability to respect confidentiality and ethical boundaries with regard to guidelines, supervision and professional consultation within the Student Development division.

  • Ability to respond professionally to common inquires and/or complaints from students, staff, employers or community at large, regarding career programming and technology
