Position Overview

The Assoc. Director, Medical Project Management for the Medical Operations team is responsible for:

Managing cross-functional integrated project plan for assigned therapeutic area, country and/or product launch which include working with the various Medical functions to define the plan objectives, build the project plan, set timelines, track milestones, and forecast budgetary and resourcing needs until plan completion.

Main Areas of Responsibilities

  • Facilitate planning process for assigned therapeutic area, country and/or launch plan; Partner with Medical Lead, Country Lead, or Launch Lead for the plan to define the planning team, set meeting cadence, identify project objectives, build meeting agenda and conduct project meetings, review the project plan periodically with the project team, and ensure completion of assigned action items and deliverables in a timely manner.

  • Manage cross-functional integrated project plan ensuring milestones, goals and budget are managed within agreed thresholds across the various Medical functions

  • Generate periodic status reports to identified stakeholders and escalate any project risks or issues to the Global Medical Excellence or Medical Leadership teams, as appropriate

  • Other activities, special projects and assignments may be given as required. The employee must conduct their work activities in compliance with all Allergan internal requirements and with all applicable regulatory requirements. Allergan internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements and objectives.

Requirements

  • Medical Project Management:

Manage integrated cross-functional project plan(s) for assigned therapeutic area, country and/or product launch which include working with the project team to define the project plan, set timelines, track milestones, and forecast budgetary and resourcing needs; Assist with rolling out the Medical Integrated Planning process by ensuring timely completion of planning meetings and delivery of a final Medical plan; Work with the TA, country, or launch teams to define and implement the project plan and be responsible for overseeing project's over-all status, tracking percentage completion of activities in the plan, updating timelines and milestones on a timely manner, and providing detailed budget and periodic forecasts for funding and resourcing needs during plan execution; the Project Manager will also be responsible for tracking project risks and issues, reporting variances to approved plans, and coordinating the resolution of these risks and issues with the Therapeutic Area Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Leadership Team, and other governing bodies within the R&D organization

  • Continuous Improvement and Project Implementation:

Contribute to the creation and implementation of the Medical Integrated Planning process, which may include deployment of new systems or technology application and creation of procedural (e.g. SOPs, WIs, Guidance, etc.) and training documents; Assist with training project team members on the planning process and other relevant R&D and Finance procedures and methodologies to ensure consistency of planning and execution across the Medical teams; Provide input on process improvements based on key learnings from ongoing project planning and assist the Executive Director, Medical Operations with implementing these process improvements

Preferred Skills/Qualification

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Project Management (PMP or similar credentials/experience)

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Strong skills in meeting facilitation, negotiation, issue resolution and stakeholder management

  • Ability to proactively identify and act to resolve project issues, including those related to timing, resources and funding, to prevent delays in project milestones, is required

  • Ability to represent project teams at senior management meetings required

  • Proven ability to build and manage cross functional teams is required.

  • This position is in Irvine, CA or Madison, NJ and may require minimal travel < />

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA or PMP preferred

  • Minimum 3 years in a Project Management role required, Expertise in the implementation and use of project management software preferred

  • Life Sciences/Pharmaceutical Industry experience required, Medical Affairs experience preferred, Experience in Product Launch Planning preferred

Position Description The role of the Principal Medical Writer is to prepare high-quality regulatory and clinical documents and to oversee medical writing responsibilities for multiple programs within an assigned therapeutic area (TA) of Global Branded R&D. In this position, the incumbent manages the planning and preparation of high-quality regulatory and clinical documents (eg, clinical study reports, briefing books, clinical protocols, integrated summaries) and ensures projects are in compliance with regulatory requirements, SOPs, business needs, and Company style/format and that they are delivered within predetermined timelines. Experience in the therapy areas of ophthalmology and CNS is desirable. The Principal Medical Writer may also undertake the role of Medical Writing Submission Lead for projects in a specified TA. In this leadership role, the incumbent is the primary interface with the cross-functional teams. The incumbent has a responsible role for assisting the Director of Medical Writing in forecasting resource requirements for Medical Writing deliverables for the assigned TA. In addition, the Principal Writer, in the Submission Lead role, is the Medical Writing subject matter expert on clinical study teams or submission teams and works in collaboration with multiple cross-functional areas. The Medical Writing Lead manages the planning of assignments and evaluation of deliverables from contractors or other third-party vendors for medical writing deliverables. Main Areas of Responsibility * Serve as Medical Writing Program Lead for designated TA, working closely with the Clinical Leads, Clinical Scientists, Global Regulatory Lead, and other Clinical team members and Submission teams, as applicable, to gather the information (timelines; projects; documents) to forecast resource needs for medical writing deliverables in Global Branded R&D * As Medical Writing Program Lead, track, prioritize, and manage team writing projects to provide input to the Director of Medical Writing of the designated TA regarding resources and budgeting requirements for assigned projects * Serve as subject matter expert representing Medical Writing on cross-functional teams * Train and mentor new staff and ensure staff adheres to Company systems and standards * Prepare high-quality clinical documents including clinical study reports, briefing books, clinical protocols, and integrated summaries for regulatory submissions * Perform the Medical Writing review of selected documents from staff, contractors, or CROs, with focus on adherence to business objectives and Company standards, as well as organization of content, clarity of text and tables, overall consistency, and appropriate use of English language/grammar * As Medical Writing Program/Document Lead, responsible for quality and adherence to established timelines for all Medical Writing deliverables in the designated TA. Independently lead clinical documents and manage/mentor MW resources * Supervise medical writing or QC and formatting of other writers or contractors for assigned documents. Requirements * At least 5 years of relevant medical writing experience required in clinical drug development or equivalent * Experience as a lead writer of clinical study documents and global regulatory submissions and manager of medical writing projects * Participate and/or lead in Operational Excellence initiatives in collaboration with the respective functions in Global Drug Development, as required.
