Job Description:

The Associate Dean of Students and Director of Community Living and Campus Involvement is a full-time, 12-month, salaried position reporting to the Vice-President for Student Life and Dean of Students, serving as a key advisor on the overall development, organization, management, and supervision of a comprehensive residential, commuter, and co-curricular involvement program

that meets the needs of the College's students. This program reflects sound student development theory and practice that aims to contribute to the growth, learning, and development of participants while also serving the campus's needs for social interaction. Due to a variety of responsibilities, the person in this position plays a central leadership role within Student Life and serves as a key liaison to other divisions. The Associate Dean manages the junior professional staff on-call duty rotation. The option exists for this to be a live-on position if desired.

This position serves as a team leader and team player who supports a vibrant and inclusive living and learning environment outside the classroom, through intentionally designed programming that promotes our students' personal growth, community engagement, and leadership development. The person in this position has oversight and responsibility for campus residence halls, residence hall programming, commuter student engagement and success, and both student and organization conduct processes. This person also provides support, advice, and advocacy to a well-established Greek Community, either directly or indirectly advising the Interfraternity Council and the College Panhellenic Council and working with four National Fraternities and three National Sororities. The Associate Dean also plans and conducts leadership development for all student organizations and assists with developing policies and procedures in accordance with both the College's and Student Life's mission and philosophy. The Associate Dean provides administrative oversight to programs and events sponsored by the Pioneer Activities Council (PAC), including but not limited to Family Weekend, Homecoming, and Spirit Week, and oversees communication to a full range of audiences related to these and other campus traditions. In addition, the Associate Dean assists with the programming efforts and operational functions of the busy and multi-functional offices in the Division of Student Life and works closely with constituents to promote civic engagement and activities among registered student organizations and Greek-letter organizations. Additional responsibilities include serving as a liaison between the College and the national offices of the Greek-letter organizations; managing programming budgets; and oversight of weekend and evening programming.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree, with preference given to candidates with a Master's in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related area.

  • Minimum six (6) years' full-time experience in higher education, with a minimum of two (2) years in Community Living/Residence Life management, including experience managing student conduct.

  • Experience in Greek Life, such as member in a Greek letter organization, membership in the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, advising a Greek letter organization, or advising NPHC, IFC, or Panhellenic Council.

  • Demonstrated commitment to principles and practice of inclusive excellence.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Prior experience managing graduate or professional staff.

  • Prior experience delivering for-credit coursework in leadership development.

  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects.

  • Ability to engage and work in collaboration with campus partners.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours as required by programming schedules.

  • Valid US driver's license and insurability under Marietta College's liability coverage.

  • Experience in Title IX investigation and/or administration, or willingness to be trained.
