Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Associate Dean for Access, Belonging and Community Engagement (ABC) is a 50% administrative appointment in the College of Nursing who reports directly to the Dean. The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Deans for Academics and Research, Department Chairs, faculty, staff, and students. Specifically, the Associate Dean will promote an academically enriching and culturally supportive environment so that all individuals at the College of Nursing can thrive and succeed.

  • Create a vision and comprehensive strategic plan to enhance access, belonging, and community engagement for students, faculty, and staff within the college in concert with the College's strategic plan and all aspects of our mission - teaching, research, practice/service.

  • Develop and implement evidence-based initiatives to enhance the recruitment, retention and success of faculty, staff, and students with emphasis on underrepresented groups in the field of nursing.

  • Develop and sustain diversity, inclusive excellence, belonging, and engagement initiatives such as faculty and staff training in inclusive pedagogies and the exploration of ways to broaden the inclusion of diverse voices in the curriculum and clinical training for nurses.

  • Oversee and evaluate the CON PASS program, which encompasses academic support for historically marginalized students.

  • Serve and participate in the USC Council of Diversity Officers (CADO) and work closely with the University's Vice President of the Office of Access and Opportunity on these and other endeavors.

  • Oversee the ABC administrative staff for the College and the Carolina's Care Cupboard.

  • Work with the ABC committee and CON leadership in identifying meaningful metrics to track progress toward the goal of achieving a more inclusive culture within the CON.

  • Other related duties, as assigned, that promote a culture of inclusive excellence and sense of belonging in the CON.

  • Disseminate best practices through scholarly works (publications, presentations) on creating and sustaining inclusive environments.

  • Serve as an exemplary role model and supportive team member of the Dean's senior leadership group with all stakeholders, including university officials, CON Executive Advisory Council, CON alumni, faculty, students, and staff.

Recruitment for this position is in the Tenured Track or Professional Track.

Required Education and Experience

  • Holds an earned doctorate in nursing (PhD or DNP).

  • Eligible for licensure in South Carolina.

  • Experience implementing and evaluating inclusive excellence initiatives within an academic setting.

  • Meets rank for Associate Professor or Professor for either Tenure Track or Professional Track.

  • Demonstrated leadership, innovation, and collaboration are highly anticipated characteristics of the Associate Dean of Access Belonging and Community Engagement (ABC).
