This is a technical role, focused on the following:
Key Objectives / Deliverables
Technical and discipline leadership
Establish and maintain all required technical aspects for containment engineering including (but not limited to) HVAC design and controls (including exhaust/LEV) , bag technology, valve technology, piping and system designs, etc.
Be proficient in risk assessment and hazard assessment methodologies as tools for developing containment solutions
Understand key toxicological aspects for compounds, products, excipients to develop proper containment engineering solutions.
Create, own, and manage all engineering standards, best practices, and specifications in this discipline.
Identify and implement new (or un-used) technology in this discipline to improve containment outcomes at Lilly.
Influence engineering designs for processes to minimize impact from potent compounds, hazardous chemicals by integrating into GFD delivery processes and by networking with key individuals at key sites.
Understand techniques for cross-contamination control and build those into solutions and requests.
Understand testing techniques/technologies that are typically employed in the containment/IH space
Provide ongoing technical support to site plant engineering groups, domestic and global, integrating other disciplines when needed (such as process engineers and HSE).
Assist sites globally with master planning, technology assessments, and specific problem resolution.
Actively participate in and influence cross-functional teams that require containment engineering perspectives (e.g. site ELT's, ETC, GFD).
Develop internal network for SMDD, PRD, LRL, DPN, API groups to fully understand pipeline of molecules/compounds and develop strategies to address containment aspects for the pipeline
Monitor and, when appropriate, influence changes in external codes and standards on Lilly's behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly for changing external standards
Develop and maintain external network of containment engineering professionals, participate in appropriate external forums.
Understand external rules, regulations that apply to containment solutions by collaborating with GHSE (IH) and other applicable external agencies/best practices.
Domestic (including Puerto Rico) and some international travel required.
