This is a technical role, focused on the following:

  • Owner for Containment engineering topics, technologies, needs across all of Lilly (M&Q, LRL, Development, Affiliates, third party, etc.)
  • Collaborate with HSE partners (GHSE and local HSE) to deliver solutions to containment questions and needs across the company.

Key Objectives / Deliverables

Technical and discipline leadership

  • Establish and maintain all required technical aspects for containment engineering including (but not limited to) HVAC design and controls (including exhaust/LEV) , bag technology, valve technology, piping and system designs, etc.

  • Be proficient in risk assessment and hazard assessment methodologies as tools for developing containment solutions

  • Understand key toxicological aspects for compounds, products, excipients to develop proper containment engineering solutions.

  • Create, own, and manage all engineering standards, best practices, and specifications in this discipline.

  • Identify and implement new (or un-used) technology in this discipline to improve containment outcomes at Lilly.

  • Influence engineering designs for processes to minimize impact from potent compounds, hazardous chemicals by integrating into GFD delivery processes and by networking with key individuals at key sites.

  • Understand techniques for cross-contamination control and build those into solutions and requests.

  • Understand testing techniques/technologies that are typically employed in the containment/IH space


  • Provide ongoing technical support to site plant engineering groups, domestic and global, integrating other disciplines when needed (such as process engineers and HSE).

  • Assist sites globally with master planning, technology assessments, and specific problem resolution.

  • Actively participate in and influence cross-functional teams that require containment engineering perspectives (e.g. site ELT's, ETC, GFD).

  • Develop internal network for SMDD, PRD, LRL, DPN, API groups to fully understand pipeline of molecules/compounds and develop strategies to address containment aspects for the pipeline

External Influence

  • Monitor and, when appropriate, influence changes in external codes and standards on Lilly's behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly for changing external standards

  • Develop and maintain external network of containment engineering professionals, participate in appropriate external forums.

  • Understand external rules, regulations that apply to containment solutions by collaborating with GHSE (IH) and other applicable external agencies/best practices.

Additional Information

  • Domestic (including Puerto Rico) and some international travel required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 10 years background and/or experience in facilities engineering, manufacturing operations, facilities design and construction, maintenance, HSE, process safety

Areas of responsibilities include: * Coordinates the integration and implementation of TPM systems. * Coordinate the development of the TPM preparation phase plan, track progress against the plan and lead issue resolution (Gap analysis, and adjustments to plan). * Coordinate the development of the TPM master plan and oversee progress and issue resolution against the master plan. * Conducts quarterly TPM Phase Assessment audits to ensure progress towards phase progression goals * Participate in department reviews and activities to ensure that work is properly integrated and that progress is on track. * Update and maintain site AOP results tracking & Site Integrated Business Plan (IBP) which includes overall plant performance in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity, Manufacturing Costs, Customer Service and Employee Morale. * Mentor teams and peers through the implementation of tools that build effective performance teams * Prioritize Site training criteria and align with the Site Training forecast and plan.
