The American College of Cardiology (ACC) is looking for a new Assistant Managing Editor to join our Scientific Publications team. This is an impactful opportunity to support the JACC Family of Journals, which spans the entire field of cardiovascular medicine, keeping investigators, clinicians and specialists up to date on the latest practice-changing science.

This position is based in Washington, DC where we have a hybrid work environment (two days per week in the office).

The Assistant Managing Editor will be responsible for contributing to the daily operations of the Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC) family of journals. While reporting to the Executive Managing Editor, the Assistant Managing Editor will work very closely with the JACC: Case Reports and the JACC: Asia Managing Editor on those journals. Duties will include processing manuscripts, coordinating peer review, and handling correspondence and production issues (e.g., preparing manuscripts for publication).

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work on all aspects of manuscript processing and production for submissions to JACC: Case Reports and JACC: Asia. This includes but is not limited to checking in new and revised submissions; coordinating the peer review process; handling correspondence with authors, reviewers, and other parties; preparing manuscripts for production; and transmitting manuscripts to the publisher.

  • With the Senior Managing Editor, coordinates and is responsible for JACC: Case Reports and JACC: Asia editorial board meetings, helping disseminate to the board as well as preparing and recording the decisions of board to be sent to authors.

  • Distributes and records transfer offers and decision letters to JACC: Case Reports and JACC: Asia sister journal editors-in-chief.

  • Assist with the development and management of CME activities for the journals.

  • Answers e-mails in shared email JACC: Case Reports and JACC: Asia accounts, working closely with authors, editors, and reviewers to make sure manuscripts are processed in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Serve as primary backup for JACC: Asia and JACC: Case Reports Senior Managing Editor, covering conference calls, sending decision letters, and, with the assistance of the Executive Managing Editor, handling all day-to-day issues.

  • Participate in testing journal websites and new online innovations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience in publishing, preferably in peer review publishing.

  • Strong organizational skills and administrative skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in time management, with the ability to adhere to strict publishing timelines and prioritizing tasks based on the deadlines.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.

  • Strong computer skills, with working knowledge of word processing, scheduling, and spreadsheet programs.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment with physicians, executives, contractors, and other staff.

  • Intermediate knowledge of STM and online publishing.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of STM and online publishing.

  • Past experience working with online journal production tracking systems.

  • Experience in the medical field; knowledge of the cardiovascular field highly desired.

ACC believes in fair and equitable pay. Multiple factors are taken into consideration when we determine what salary to offer a selected candidate. These factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations. Our salary ranges differ based on the cost of labor in the local market where the job will be performed. For this role in Washington, DC (and other high-cost of labor markets if applicable, including California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Washington) the target base salary range is: $62,000 - $70,000. The salary ranges for other locations in the US will vary based on the local labor market; ACC's Recruitment Team will be able to provide more information to candidates during initial discussions.
