General Summary

The Apprentice Nondestructive Testing technician will assist the Technician or Sr Technician performing inspections utilizing various NDT techniques seeking corrosion, defects, or detrimental conditions in accordance with specific written criteria. The Apprentice may calibrate instruments or perform other duties under the supervision of a certified Technician / Sr Technician.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concern

  • Performs all duties as assigned and adheres to TEAM's Core Values.

  • Assists the Technician or Sr. Technician on NDT inspections.

  • Studies to gain NDT certifications while assisting and learning hands on experience in various NDT methods.

  • Performs any duties assigned by the Technician or SR Technician on the worksite.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • An understanding of basic math

  • Ability to work in Microsoft Word

  • Ability to work with computers / computerized equipment

  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate in English

  • Travel requirement; 0-75%

  • Ability to handle chemicals in a safe manner

  • Ability to follow instructions

Work Conditions

  • Position is based out of a branch or site location.

  • Field duties require indoor and outdoor work in a plant atmosphere

  • Interaction with other crew employees, as well as supervisors and client personnel

  • Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels

  • Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection

  • May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes

  • May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds

  • Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively

  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodations, which permits employee to investigations

  • Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permit the employee to perform routine office duties

  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations

  • Sufficient personal mobility to maneuver within a refinery or plant environment to include the ability to gain access to elevated platforms via ladders and stairwells

Responsible for maintaining training plans and testing for initial training, conducting off-shift and closely coordinating on-shift training needs. The Process Area Trainer, will manage operating procedures, scenario drills and site wide policies to ensure job competency and compliance with safety and environmental standards. This position interfaces with all departments throughout the refinery including operations, maintenance and technical services. This position reports to the Employee Development Team Leader. Responsibilities may include: * Conducting training classes using training aids, demonstrations, lecture, interactive discussion, multi-media equipment, etc. to facilitate learning and ensure required knowledge and skills are acquired and demonstrated in the field * Conducting one-on-one training on specific tasks, equipment, procedures, tools, etc. ensuring individual training needs are met with clear and measurable outcomes * Includes coordinating on-shift training processes * Writing, reviewing, and editing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and training materials to ensure they accurately reflect job requirements and field practice * Developing and administering knowledge and performance base testing to measure competency of students that participate in training * Managing area training activities to ensure cost of training is aligned with budget constraints and is based on individual and/or business needs * Supporting Area Leadership through analysis of individual and team performance issues and identify solutions (training /non-training) to develop appropriate performance solutions * Entering training and trainee information into electronic and/or manual record keeping system to ensure compliance * Talking to vendors, external consultants, and internal resources concerning products, programs, processes, to identify training opportunities, solutions and options to performance problems * Assisting with the development of computer-based training as needed to provide self-paced training materials * Participating in professional organizations, networks, workshops, etc. to stay current with subject matter and training technology * Providing routine feedback to trainees regarding progress to reinforce learning and verify current status * Providing assistance in delivering new employee orientation, new operator training, annual safety training and additional training initiatives as required * Attending routine meetings: business area council meetings, training team, etc. to stay current with business and team driven needs and issues Qualifications Basic/Required: * Legally authorized to work in the job posting country * High school diploma or GED equivalent * 3 or more years of refining operations experience * Must maintain a valid driver's license Preferred: * 1 or more years of experience as a stillman * 1 or more years of experience as a trainer in the refining industry * Proficient in Microsoft Office * Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment * Leadership skills * Knowledge of safe work practices Competencies At Phillips 66, while "what" we do may be very different from person to person, there's a "how" that connects all of us.
