Essential Duties

The IACBE-accredited School of Business at Rhode Island College invites applications for one open rank, tenure-track faculty position (assistant, associate, or full) with a primary focus in Operations Management. We seek candidates with a strong interest in teaching within a liberal arts setting who are eager to teach various operations management courses, including operations management, project management, supply chain management, process management, service operation management, and quality assurance. There may also be opportunities to teach other courses in the broad management area.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach three courses in the fall and spring terms (3-3 load). The classes are small, allowing for more student interaction. The college has an average student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1, and most class sizes range between 10 and 30 students. Faculty are also required to advise up to 30 students, which requires guiding students through their management programs. Faculty are also expected to engage in scholarly research leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals and conduct service.

The college requires that all applicants and employees be able to perform the above essential duties of the job and will explore reasonable accommodations for individuals with documented disabilities in accordance with ADA requirements.

Occasional Duties

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Good teaching skills,
  • Good knowledge of operations management (including project management, process management, service management, and supply chain management)
  • The ability and enthusiasm to impart this knowledge to undergraduate students,
  • A willingness to work collegially with other faculty in the School of Business

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Operations Management or related field, or ABD with a credible plan to complete dissertation within 2 years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the college level.

  • Industry experience in an asset.

  • Interest in teaching and researching in.

  • Ability to teach in-person, hybrid, or online as directed by the chair and/or dean of the School of Business.

  • Bilingual
