The Division of Pathology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in affiliation with the Department of Pathology, University of Cincinnati, is seeking a full-time Pathologist with combined skills in surgical pathology and neuropathology, including frozen section diagnosis, experience with brain, nerve and muscle biopsies, and brain autopsies.

The full-time academic appointment may be at the Assistant, Associate or Professorial level, depending on candidates' qualifications and experience. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.

Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD or equivalent degree and have or be eligible for an unrestricted Ohio medical license. Qualified applicants should be board certified in anatomic pathology (with or without clinical pathology). Fellowship training in neuropathology is required. The successful recruit will also have the skills to carry out neuropathological or related research as a thought leader or collaborative team member. Extramural research funding is welcome, but not required. Teaching and mentoring of medical students, pathology residents and fellows will be an integral component of the position.

The Division of Pathology provides a comprehensive and full service anatomic diagnostic support for all clinical general and subspecialty pediatric programs. The Division of Pathology processes approximately 15,000 pediatric surgical specimens a year and greater than 1,000 outside consultations. Approximately 125 autopsies are performed each year, with over 20 autopsies represented by neuropathology cases. Weekly brain cutting sessions are held and several research autopsies to support our brain tumor research programs are supported.

Our state-of-the-art Electron Microscopy facility provides rapid opportunities for the evaluation of metabolic brain diseases and muscle biopsies. We are also investing in a Molecular Pathology Laboratory in order to further support our clinical oncologic programs. Among pediatric institutions, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is the second-highest ranking recipient of research grants from the National Institutes of Health. There are several NIH-funded centers of excellence, including Immunology, Developmental Biology, Cardiovascular Biology, Pulmonary Biology, Cancer/Experimental Hematology, and the Respiratory, Kidney and Digestive Disease Centers. Multiple cores support basic and translational research including genomics, high-density data informatics/systems biology, mouse models of cancer and stem cell and gene/viral vector therapy. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree

  • Current active medical license issued by the State of Ohio or eligible for license

  • Appropriate medical credentialing through the Medical Staff Services offices

  • Completion of all required pre-employment activities

  • Professor appointment or eligibility required

  • Generally requires a minimum of five years of service at the Assistant Professor rank
