Position Title Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Nursing and Chair Position Number 897077 School/Division School of Nursing Department Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description

The Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies is seeking applications for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Nursing who will also serve as the Chair of Graduate and Undergraduate Nursing for a minimum of the first 3 years of appointment, subject to renewal. The Doctor of Nursing Practice and Master of Science programs with a major in nursing have three tracks: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). The Bachelor of Science program with a major in nursing began in fall 2021. The School also offers a Master of Science in Cardiovascular Sciences and Perfusion Medicine.

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide instruction to Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Nursing Practice students in Nursing and Cardiovascular Sciences and Perfusion Medicine

  • Demonstrate competence in teaching

  • Create innovative curricula utilizing experiential pedagogies and adult learning theory

  • Engage in community service above and beyond faculty requirements

  • Engage in lifelong learning as evidenced by participation in professional and faculty development

  • Evidence of progressive participation and leadership of national/international professional organizations

  • Maintain clinical/professional experience in the field of accreditation of undergraduate and graduate-level programs, namely Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and Accreditation Committee-Perfusion Education (AC-PE)

Chair Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recommend to the Dean the appointment with initial rank, reappointment, promotion, and tenure of the department faculty in concert and cooperation with department faculty

  • Recommend initial compensation level, and subsequent adjustments of compensation for the department faculty

  • Help the department faculty achieve high levels of professional competence and scholarship

  • Maintain department faculty personnel records

  • Be responsible for administrative details of the department (e.g., scheduling, registration, advising, grading, reports, budget, equipment, recommending books for the Library, ordering departmental texts, informing the faculty of University regulations and official notices, supervising clerical, secretarial, and support staff).

  • Promote the effectiveness and quality of instruction

  • Be responsible for evaluation of the department faculty

  • Promote the effective integration of curriculum in the department

  • Maintain liaison between the department's faculty and students on the one hand, and the Dean on the other

  • Advise the Dean regarding the state of the department, including its needs, its activities, and its future plans

  • Survey and evaluate trends in the academic discipline so as to maintain and improve the quality of the department curriculum and teaching methodology

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching at the collegiate level required

  • Minimum of 7 years of clinical experience required

  • Experience with Simulation

  • Experience teaching Undergraduate fundamentals and med-surg

  • Excellent communication, organizational, teaching, leadership, and time management skills

  • Outstanding computer skills are a must and include proficiency in Blackboard, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment

Preferred Quals Summary

Salary/Salary Range $120,000-$160,000 inclusive of chair stipend

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
