Position description
The Assistant Project Scientist in the laboratories of Dr. Bruno Peault will perform independent research to study 1- mesenchymal progenitor cells in human pathologic lipedema tissues, and 2- perivascular stem cells in human osteoarthritis. The Assistant Project Scientist I will also be responsible for helping to supervise graduate students and undergraduate student researchers, preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals. This position requires a Ph.D. in Cell Biology or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in mesenchymal stem cell biology. The Assistant Project Scientist position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance. Step is commensurate with experience.

The assigned project is focused on 1- determining if the currently unknown etiology of lipedema is related to the presence of qualitatively or/and quantitatively abnormal mesenchymal progenitor cells (fibrogenesis, adipogenesis), and 2- if perivascular stem cells can be used as vectors for the therapeutic use of siRNAs in osteoarthritis.
Specific Responsibilities include:
Additional Duties:• Supervision of undergraduates, graduate students and new postdoctoral trainees in the lab.• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.• Ability to work independently on scientific projects.• Assist with preparation of grant proposals.• Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.• Equipment maintenance • Required to communicate well with other scientists worldwide.• Candidate should have 5 years research experience in mesenchymal cell biology and adipose tissue pathology in an academic setting or equivalent.• Candidate should have extensive experience in image processing.• The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.• Ability to handle several projects simultaneously.• Ability to help and train various personnel in mesenchymal/stromal cell biology and make significant contributions to the design and execution of other laboratory members' experiments.
