The incumbent will fill critical teaching needs of the Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) within the Departments of Neuroscience, Cell Biology, and Physiology (NCBP) and Medical Education (DME).

The Wright Curriculum is fully-integrated across the basic and clinical sciences, in disciplines that include anatomy, biochemistry, biostatistics , clinical, and evidenced-based medicine, experimental design, history, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and physiology. This integrated curriculum requires a broad and complementary set of teaching faculty that collectively cover expertise across all of these disciplines. There is an immediate need for teaching faculty across the following broad disciplines: clinical and evidence-based medicine, clinical microbiology/pathology, and medical physiology. The incumbent is expected to join a team of clinician and biomedical science educators who together lead and coordinate the "Foundations of Clinical Practice" phase of BSOM fully integrated curriculum (https://medicine.wright.edu/student-life/curriculum/wrightcurriculum).

The incumbent will be expected to create teaching and learning materials as well as strategies for physiology education, primarily for medical students. The incumbent will be a key leader and collaborator in the development and delivery of the medical school's lecture -free Wright curriculum, and will instruct and coordinate instruction in physiology across the entire first two years of the medical school curriculum in close collaboration within the NCBP and DME faculty as well as pharmacologists, pathologists, and clinicians throughout the BSOM.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

  2. Assistant professor level candidates must fulfill all of the minimum requirements. Associate professor level candidates must have at least 5 years experience at the assistant professor level with an exemplary scholarly portfolio.

  3. Experience with medical student and/or other biomedical education, including course/curriculum design and assessment, use of innovative teaching and learning strategies.

  4. Excellent oral and written communications.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. At least one year of postdoctoral research experience with demonstrated productivity through publications and funding commensurate with their rank.

  2. Prior experience in medical student systems physiology, curricular development and delivery, with a particulate emphasis in cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, GI and/or endocrine physiology.

  3. Prior experience in writing NBME-style exams questions.

  4. Leadership with interdisciplinary faculty skills.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

60%- Lead and collaborate with other faculty members across departments in developing and delivering the BSOM Wright curriculum, including design and implementation of innovative teaching and learning strategies: instruct and create instructional materials, apply a scholarly approach to teaching and curriculum implementation.

10%- Other departmental educational initiatives/activities related to graduate or undergraduate students.

20%- Perform scholarly activity focusing on Education-oriented scholarship.

10%-Participate in and/or serve in leadership roles on committees/task forces within Department and Medical School, i.e admission, curriculum, research.

Supervisor roles: Expected to supervise relevant laboratory personnel and teaching assistants.

Fiscal responsibility: As relevant-as principal investigator, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning, budgeting, spending, and final approval of all intramural and extramural grants.
