Assistant/Associate Professor of Transportation Geography (Tenure-Track)

George Mason University, Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science (GGS) in the College of Science invites highly qualified candidates to apply for our Transportation Geography faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This full-time, tenure-track position is scheduled to begin in August 2020. Responsibilities:

We are seeking candidates that combine an expertise within the field of transportation geography with novel analysis and modeling techniques. We especially encourage applications from candidates with expertise in researching mobility, accessibility, network analysis, or the dynamics of modal splits. Outstanding candidates will demonstrate high-level research using data modeling, transportation GIS, demand and allocation modeling, or economic analysis.

The selected candidate will develop an externally funded research portfolio that will advance the mission of GGS, advise graduate students at both the master's and Ph.D. levels, provide core support to our successful and growing programs in Geography and Geoinformation Science; teach core and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels (the equivalent of two courses per semester) and develop new courses as needed in areas of specialization.

The incumbent will also be encouraged to participate in an in-depth university orientation and the structured, three-semester faculty mentorship program where you will collaborate with incoming TT peers and existing faculty mentors across departments and colleges. Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in geography, geoinformatics, urban planning, or a closely related field is required by time of appointment.

  • Ability to develop a strong and active research agenda.

  • A demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed scholarship.

  • Ability to teach courses in transportation geography and a field of specialization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and potential of seeking/securing external research grants.
