Eastern Oregon University (EOU) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor to launch our new interdisciplinary undergraduate program in Sustainable Rural Systems in Fall 2020. The program broadly addresses the health of rural communities and their place in a global context.
The program is built around large, authentic, multi-year and interdisciplinary community projects in which students participate as soon as they enter the program, with their level of engagement progressively increasing, allowing students to apply the conceptual to the practical, and, crucially, gain an intimate and detailed understanding of the rural community context. Launch projects agreed upon for Fall 2020 are brownfield remediation and repurposing projects in communities in rural Eastern Oregon. We are seeking a dynamic individual with background in integrative rural community systems or systems science research and applications (see full description below), who ideally has experience with aspects of rural systems to shape the further development of this innovative experiential degree program.
The position is challenging in that it requires both formal and informal instruction, in part is based on project needs and works with a diverse population of college students. This is a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position, with an initial tenth- month stipend in the first year. Start date of the position for the first year is August 16, 2020. See webpage for full program information Sustainable Rural Systems https://www.eou.edu/sustainable-rural-systems.
