The Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering (MAIE) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks applicants for one or more faculty positions as part of a college wide cluster hire in the broad area of Biomedical Engineering. Successful candidates are expected to start in the Fall 2024 semester.

Successful candidates will contribute to 1) the new master's program in biomedical engineering, 2) develop funded research in biomedical engineering, and 3) collaborate with the School of Medicine. The MAIE program has ABET accreditation. The MAIE department has an enrollment of over 120 UG students and 50 master's degree students. The College of Engineering & Computer Science has a new interdisciplinary PhD program in materials science and engineering and several centers in which the successful candidate can participate as appropriate: the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Cyber Systems (CAMICS), the Center for Nanotechnology, the Center for Multidisciplinary Research Excellence in Cyber-Physical Infrastructure Systems (MECIS), and the University Transportation Center for Railway Safety (UTCRS). The position is for tenure track assistant professor; however, exceptional candidates may be considered for credit toward time on tenure track or for appointment as associate professor.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and/or a related field from an accredited university (at least conferred before the start date of September 1, 2024). Candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching and research capabilities of the MAIE department. Applicants must have demonstrated evidence of leadership, skill in interdisciplinary research and collaboration, along with the potential to develop (or already developed) an outstanding research program and high-profile publications as well as a successful record of extramural funding.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability (or a well-designed plan) to develop and maintain a funded research program and to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate having (or potential to) achieved excellence and balance in teaching, research and service, collaboration with faculty across disciplines, and the ability to involve undergraduate students as well as graduate students in research activities.

Preferred Qualifications

The highest consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in the Biomedical Manufacturing. For instance, areas such as biostatistics, bioinformatics, human factors and ergonomics, environmental and occupational health and safety, and assistive technologies are welcome.
