Ohio University Lancaster invites applicants for Assistant/Associate Professor of Respiratory Therapy and Program Director for Respiratory Therapy. This position will provide effective leadership for an applied associate degree in respiratory therapy, including curriculum development, ongoing program planning and assessment, communication with stakeholders and accreditation bodies (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care standard [CoARC]), and program fiscal management. This position is a full-time/12 month position.

Initial Primary Duties include:

  • Develop new applied associate degree curriculum in respiratory therapy, adhering to standards and expectations defined by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

  • Prepare and submit program accreditation information to CoARC and navigate program accreditation requirements. Establish protocols to support ongoing accreditation requirements.

  • Assist in the development of faculty position descriptions.

  • Identify program delivery needs, including laboratory equipment and clinical course requirements.

  • Work with colleagues in the College of Health Sciences & Professions to develop faculty processes for promotion, annual evaluations, and merit reviews.

  • Work with Regional Higher Education and the College of Health Sciences & Professions to formally establish and maintain hospital partnerships to support the program.

Long-Term Primary Duties include:

  • Maintain professional skills (RCP License, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP) and subject matter expertise through research in discipline, continuing education, and involvement in professional organizations.

  • Supervise respiratory care faculty and evaluate instructional effectiveness.

  • Manage clinical agency agreements, ensure clinical resources meet or exceed contractual obligations. Acts as a liaison between the program and clinical sites.

  • Maintain established hospital partnerships to support and/or grow the program.

  • Maintain curriculum through regular review processes and maintain program delivery records consistent with accreditation standards. Coordinate respiratory therapy course schedule needs with Associate Vice Provost for Regional Higher Education.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an annual program assessment plan in accordance with CoARC requirements and Ohio University expectations.

  • Contribute to teaching in the respiratory therapy program, as available and/or necessary.

  • Provide ongoing service to the program, college, and regional campus(es), which may include committee work, special assignments, active participation in professional groups, and relevant community activities.

  • Work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in respiratory therapy or closely related field of study at the time of application.

Possess a valid Ohio Respiratory Care Practitioner License (active and current) or be eligible for an Ohio license.

Registered Respiratory Therapist credential (active and current).

Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and/or planning.

A minimum of four (4) years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.

A minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.

Complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters or Doctorate in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
