Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire an assistant/associate/full professor of finance. This is a full time probationary (tenure track) position within the Department of Economics and Finance and will start on August 15, 2024.

Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to teach courses in finance at undergraduate and graduate level and, depending on interest and expertise, other courses in the department such as risk management and insurance, and real estate, to a diverse, contemporary student population and contribute to meaningful assessment of student learning.

  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.

  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.

  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.

  • Engage in service to the university and community.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution in finance or financial economics. ABDs with expected completion by August 15, 2024 will also be considered.

  • Career goals aligned with university vision and objectives.

  • Demonstrated potential for success in teaching and professional service activities.

  • A plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in the specified discipline(s), or related disciplines.

  • Effective Communication skills (written and verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse workforce and student population.

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at a post-secondary level.

  • Demonstrated professional development and engagement specifically related to teaching effectiveness.

  • Demonstrated experiences in community engagement.

  • Demonstrated record of refereed journal publications in finance or related fields proportional to the years since completion of Ph.D. or equivalent at a level expected by accreditation agencies.

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to be a teacher-scholar who actively engages in research, and through that provides benefits to students in terms of teaching effectiveness, undergraduate and graduate research opportunities and curriculum development.

  • Demonstrated ability and desire to develop and teach courses in field of financial technology (FinTech).

  • Demonstrated ability and interest in teaching courses in risk management and insurance and/or real estate.

  • Experience developing course curricula at a post-secondary institution.

  • Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.

  • Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.

  • Experience as an academic advisor for students at post-secondary institution.

  • Professional experience in finance or related area outside academia.

The School/Academic Department: The Department of Economics and Finance offers programs in Economics (major/minor), Finance (major/minor), and Risk Management and Insurance (minor). Courses are taught by tenured faculty and community (or adjunct) faculty in various modalities. The Economics program provides a strong foundation in both theory and applications that are in high demand for careers in business, government and non-profit organizations. The Finance program provides solid academic grounding in areas such as investments, financing and risk management, and prepares students for careers in corporate finance, financial institutions and personal investment services. Our department also contributes finance courses and a finance specialization to the MBA program. Faculty may have the opportunity to teach courses for the DBA program. Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.

Employment for this position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) which can be found at on the Minnesota State Employee and Labor Relations website.
