Job Summary:

The Marine Science Program at Hawai'i Pacific University invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. We seek candidates who are enthusiastic about undergraduate teaching and will implement student-centered research activities that mentor undergraduates and Master's students in field and lab activities, data analyses, and scientific writing. HPU's Marine Science program offers three Bachelor's degrees (BS Marine Biology, BS Oceanography, and BA Marine Affairs) and a Master's of Science in Marine Science degree with thesis-based and applied tracks.  By the anticipated start date of August, 2024, program operations will be primarily based at the Makapu'u campus in Waimnalo, Oahu, which also hosts the Oceanic Institute (an aquaculture research and technology development center), and the Center for Marine Debris Research. Teaching responsibilities may also take place at HPU's central campus in Honolulu.  Our program's resources include the 42-ft R/V Kaholo, which operates in Kaneohe Bay, and an AAUS certified scientific diving program.

The successful applicants will fulfill teaching, research, and program development needs within the Marine Science program. Applicants should demonstrate the potential to develop scholarship activities that engage both undergraduate and graduate students within the broad field of marine sciences, which may include, but are not limited to, the following areas: Coral Reef Ecology, Conservation Biology, Marine Vertebrate Biology, Finfish Aquaculture, or Marine Policy. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the existing undergraduate and graduate curriculum, which may include Coral Reef Ecology, Marine Invertebrate Zoology, Oceanography, GIS or other quantitative data science courses, science writing, a capstone research course in Marine Biology, and/or other classes in their area of expertise. Because some teaching may be done in other programs (e.g. Biology) or substituted with an administrative leadership role, candidates with experience and/or interest in leadership are encouraged to state so.
