The IACBE-accredited School of Business at Rhode Island College invites applications for one open rank, tenure-track faculty position (assistant, associate, or full) with a primary focus in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior. We seek candidates with a strong interest in teaching within a liberal arts setting who are eager to teach various human resource management courses, including recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, human resource development, and strategic human resource management. There may also be opportunities to teach other courses, including organizational behavior, managing workplace diversity, and principled leadership.

Essential Duties

  • Teach a variety of Human Resources Management courses, and Foundations of Management as needed. Specifically, teach the undergraduate core course in Human Resource Management, and elective courses in the area of Human Resource Management.

  • Plan and teach courses that fulfill curriculum goals and objectives.

  • Scholarly activities, including academic research publications in peer-reviewed journals and other publications.

  • Remain current with subject matter and instructional methodology.

  • Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.

  • Advise undergraduate students.

  • Participate in College and Departmental activities and projects.

  • Engage in instructional improvement, research, and professional development and improvement activities.

  • Communicate course progress to students in a timely manner.

  • Determine and submit student grades in accordance with established College policies and procedures.

  • Support the mission of the program, department, School, and College.

Occasional Duties

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair; including, but not limited to, working with student organizations, and participate in service activities with colleagues, the department, the School, the College, the community and professional organizations.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Abilities consistent with teaching excellence and instructional innovation in the area of Human Resource Management.

  • Demonstrated research productivity commensurate with experience, and a capacity to develop and sustain a research stream that will result in peer-reviewed publications.

  • Ability to publish academic articles in peer-reviewed journals and other publications.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with departmental colleagues in a diverse campus community.

  • Ability to educate and mentor a diverse student population.

  • Proficiency in English both written and spoken.

Required Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. or DBA in management, business administration, or a related field from an accredited institution. ABD considered if doctoral dissertation will be defended by December 31, 2026.

Experience: Experience as instructor or teaching assistant, teaching at least one university-level course.

  • For Associate Professor:

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in management, business administration, or a related field, from an accredited institution, with substantive coursework in Human Resource Management.

  • Evidence of potential for scholarship is important, including demonstrated empirical research skills appropriate for, and a commitment to, developing a research stream in the field of Human Resource Management.

  • Published articles in peer-reviewed journals in Human Resource Management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to teach Introductory Human Resource Management and Human Resource Management elective courses at the undergraduate/graduate level to a diverse group of students.

  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching methods in a classroom with a diverse group of students.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach one or more advanced courses including, but not limited to: (a) Staffing Organizations, and/or (b) Compensation & Performance Management. (The ability to teach other courses offered by the Management Department may be considered secondarily.)

  • A willingness to fulfill service responsibilities to our students, colleagues, department, School, College, community and professional organizations.

  • Committed to continued personal and professional development.

  • Related professional work experience.

  • Bilingual
